Firstly I am new to this awesome site. Secondly I am going to be honest from the get go and admit I don't really understand how all this line breeding works although I hope to learn more over the years.

I have been racing horses since 2004 here in Australia and was spoilt after purchasing a small share in my very first horse which ended up being a Group/Grade 1 winner.
So needless to say ever since I have been hooked in the horse racing fraternity and have bought into approximately another 15 horses since then.

Ok with that said, I recently purchased my first Broodmare which I raced a 10% share in her, I was lucky enough to buy the mare outright after a little negotiation.

Her name is Malasun sired by Red Ransom, her mother is Malapert who has produced 2 stakes winners to date.
Firstly Stokehose and secondly my mare Malasun who won her first race start the (Listed) Blue Diamond Preview. Unfortunately her legs were never the same after her debut win.

This is obviously her first year as a broodmare, I am breeding her with So You Think as she is currently under lights.
I would love to know what you guys think and if there are any specialists out there that understand all about line breeding and this X chromosome stuff I would love to know how these two line up in regards to line breeding and so on.

Also some added information that might help is: Malasun was a very speedy sprinter, she is 15.3hh high, but she is a lightly framed mare.

Lastly am I able to get the pedigree of the resulting foal from this site.
Is there a way I could type in Malasun & So You Think so it can show me the foals pedigree?

Look forward to hear from you
Regards

Not to mention Equineline is accurate, whereas this site is not.

So You Think is an excellent choice!

Another thought on stallions that have done well on Red Ransom line mares, my choice would be
More Than Ready based on his runner Pianist, or one of his son's in Australia. http://www.pedigreequery.com/pianist6

Here's another Halo line that's done well over a Red Ransom line.

I believe the Halo line is attracted to and nicks well with anything Selene. Damascus in Red Ransom is loaded with Selene.

Jeff,
Thanks allot for your reply to my post, its very much appreciated mate.
I love More Then Ready, his stats say it all.
Because Malasun is a maiden mare, I opted to go with So You Think as his fee is $66,000
More Then Ready stands for $99,000 this season.
It's highly likely I will chose him for my mares second or third season if Vinery are able to negotiate. He is a awesome Sire, one of the very best in my opinion.

Hi Wheels,

It's not possible to know how So You Think will do at stud so the best place to look is to look at his sire.

I had a look at High Chaparral's highest-earning offspring and what struck me is that they are generally out of mares by stamina-oriented stallions. This is true in both the northern and southern hemispheres.

Doyoun (by Mill Reef)--Zabeel--Tights (by Nijinsky)--Theatrical--Thunder Gulch--Pentire--Acatenango--Star Way.

Out of his high-class performers by more sprint-type sires, go back a generation and the one out of a Woodman mare is from the family of Arc winner Dancing Brave. (I can't account for Descardo!)

High Chapparal does have at least two stakes winners with Red Ransom within 4 generations: Gr-1 winner Wigmore Hall and LW/Gr-1 placed Branderburgo. So pedigree-wise there's nothing to suggest it won't work.

The thing I think is key here, then, is her physical type. Given how many of HC's best runners are out of stamina-type mares, probably the distance-type physical works better with him than sprints-type. If she looks more like Encosta de Lago, that may not be the best bet. If she takes after the Red Ransom, no worries.

Kimberley firstly thank you for you post, its much appreciated.
I totally understand that it isn’t possible to know how So You Think will do at stud as his oldest progeny are just being born as we speak.
However the mares he covered in his first season were exceptional all top class mares and the same can be said with his second season, which is one of the reasons I chose to go with him.

Malasun’s mother Malapert produced a Listed & Group 2 winner in Stokehouse who won those races over 1800 meters.
However I know what you mean as Malasun had a ton of speed and was a sprinter.
This is another reason why I chose So You Think due to his exceptional speed.
I’m not sure if you read some of the reports from Bart and Coolmore.
One of the reports stated that So You Think could have started his career in the Newmarket and would have won it with great ease, as he has a ton of speed.
My goal or dream is that if all goes well once Malasun is served and God willing she gets pregnant and has a foal, I am hoping the foal will be a sprinter/miler.

As for Malasun’s physical type, she has taken to Red Ransom that’s for sure. Which I guess is a plus. It’s still very early at this stage however The reports are suggesting that the So You Think foals are quite exceptional so far. Fingers crossed.

Dean

I have seen a very good trends when combining woodman blood through the female side with red ransom blood through the male.
