Total Outcross Broodmare

Postby bluejayjack » Tue Nov 08, 2016 12:54 pm

I have the good fortune to pick up a really interesting broodmare that is a total outcross of bloodlines for Mr. Prospector, Storm Cat, Seattle Slew, Secretariat, A P Indy, etc. The only two duplicates that show in the first 5 generations are Damascus 4x5 (harder to find these days) and Kankankee Miss 4 x5. The mare's name is Top Babe. She did nothing on the racetrack - but a number of her sisters and 1/2 sisters are throwing stakes winners and her dam is 1/2 to Videogenic. So the family has nice enough activity to make her attractive to buy. What makes her even more unique is her pedigree, but it's been an interesting attempt to try to research great nicks for Old Topper's sire - Gilded Time with what there is today for Stallion options and the broodmare sire - Alydeed.

Any thoughts on this for a stallion for her. This will be her first foal and reasonable - say $25,000 and under. But I'd love to accentuate the Damascus line - it's a solid, sound line. Mr. Speaker seemed like an interesting choice for her. Love his female family and it nicks well with hers.

thoughts anyone?

Fed Biz has a few pedigree highlights that might be of interest:

- Fed Biz's damsire is Wild Again (sire of Wild Babe--easily Top Babe's best sibling)
- Fed Biz's sire is Giant's Causeway (also grandsire of Cause Ur My Babe, Top Babe's second-best sibling)
- Fed Biz's second damsire is Mr. Prospector (who shows up consistently--often through inbreeding--in Top Babe's sisters' best runners)

Additional pluses:

- At $10k, Fed Biz is probably appropriately priced for a mare like Top Babe
- Fed Biz has a crop on the ground--you can go see how those weanlings look and decide how he will match up with your mare

Hey - thanks - all great and valid points. Good nicks with siblings are always good to consider when determining mating's!
