Tepin

So, you have a few months to plan a mating for TEPIN.

Tapit or Arrogate?

Or do you go to Europe for Frankel or Dubawi?

I think Frankel. Sadlers Wells/Nureyev cross. All that Northern Dancer won't scare off any European buyers.

If it's a colt they can name it Frankinstein (FRANKel x tepIN (bernSTEIN).

She's a two-time champion, so nothing but the best for her, but I'd like to think outside the box.

Why not reverse the Karakontie (JPN) breeding and send her to a Sunday Silence-line stallion? I guess that would mean shipping her to Japan.
Karakontie is also from Kingmambo's female family, so why not try a Kingmambo son - Lemon Drop Kid!!! (one of my favourites, I am admittedly biased)

Malibu Moon got Gormley with a Bernstein mare.

Can't go wrong with some more Mr. Prospector in there.

She's an inspiration for all of us with an unraced mare like her dam Life Happened. Sent my unraced mare to the stud farm. Can't wait to get my Tepin clone.

If her owners are willing to shell out Tapit prices, then go across the Atlantic to Galileo.

He'll be 20 next year. Use him while he's there.

If I were breeding to race the foal, I'd call on Lane's End Farms up and coming young sire, Union Rags. I always wished Union Rags had the opportunity to try the grass, since his 2nd dam was the long winded turf specialist Terpsichorist, trained by the great Woody Stephens. Yet her foals could handle the dirt (as Union Rags mom, Tempo showed us) possibly allowing Tepin's foal a couple options at a reasonable stud fee? TJ

Union Rags has some of the shortest and most upright pasterns I've seen. I was surprised he was able to go as far as he did but now I understand why he didn't have a long career. Outside of his pasterns he's a super handsome horse.

So they bred her on the sly to Curlin. But, the owner said to TDN:

"Asked what his plans were regarding keeping the foal or selling it, and what he would do with Tepin down the road, Masterson said, “To be honest, I have not made any decision about that.” He continued, “There are some great studs like Galileo (Ire) and Frankel (GB) who she matches up extremely well with and I think it would behoove us going down the line to have an opportunity to breed to one of those, or both. Frankel is new, but he’s from the Galileo line and of course Galileo is the greatest stallion in the world. On paper, for her, that’s the best match-up there is.”"

I agree on Galileo or Frankel.

I was surprised that they chose Curlin for her. Curlin isn't known for getting turf runners,
and I think his offspring prefer distances longer than the mile that Tepin excelled at.

My thought would be, why not just send her to a world class turf miler, and reinforce
her strongest aptitudes, and that of the sire?

Who would you pick for her, and what do you think about the Curlin choice?
