Which would be considered to be more desirable and why:
A.) Line-breeding 5x6 to Rough Shod II through the full-sisters Moccassin (1963) and Thong (1964), both by Nantallah,
Or,
B.) Line-breeding 4x5 to Moccassin through the half-siblings Apalachee (C, 1971, by Round Table) and Flippers (M, 1981, by Coastal) ?
I look forward to your insights.
Thanks,
J.D.

The mare Special, from the same family has been doubled up on with considerable success. I dont consider myself in a position to give an opinion on a mating and others are much more knowledgable them me...
but in my opinion I never second guess doubling up on an outstanding racemare or producer if it "fits" the pedigree and what you're looking for.
My guess would be, and take this with a grain of salt, you'd make more of an inpact with option B. Moccasin was a brilliant mare, a damn good producer and her female line and branch of the Rough Shod II clan has not only been very active as of late, but been producing good stallions and broodmares. Option A is the safer play but far enough back that if you were intentionally going for the inbreeding, it almost nulls it to an extent.. or at least makes the likelihood of being the culprit of class in the foal a minimal affair as opposed to option B.

Hi JD,
I think Coke gave a fine answer. Your question is in a vacuum, much like asking, should I go WEST or should I go EAST?
What's the context.

Pete
