Mating advise for Lord Carson Champion mare

Postby mccs » Wed Oct 26, 2005 8:05 pm

I would like your opinion on breeding our mare. Andiroba 5 y/o mare with earnings of near $300k in Puerto Rico. Broodmare sire Rahy. She was 3 y/o champion with great speed. Multiple stakes winner that won at all distances up to 7f. Never raced over mile. We are considering to send her to Kentucky and are willing to go up to 25k fee. Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Victor

You might also want to consider Saint Ballado's stakes-winning son Lord ofthe Thunder. New to Pennsylvania for 2006.

Thank you both for your responses. Any thoughts on Forest Wildcat?

Thanks

In Reality is a VERY nice nick with Carson City, the sire of this mare, and Bill From WA has also noted what a good nick In Reality is with Raise a Native, to whom this mare is closely inbred...

How about Successful Appeal??

Obviously alot depends on your mare. Lord Carson tended to have good bodied horses that were somewhat offset. Your mare may not have this fault but if she does, I'd stay away from Seattle Slew or Storm Cat myself. You also might consider like to like breeding and select a good middle distance type horse to compliment your sprint to middle distance mare.

On paper only, Forest Camp might be one to consider if he's physically compatible. Honour and Glory isn't particularly commercial but he's done well with Carson City mares. Indian Charlie has done wonders with Carson City mares although I'd look really hard at the knees of your mare before breeding her to that sireline.

But it's really hard to say without evaluating your mare's size and conformation directly.

The best, and nearest green star in the pedigree of your mare is the one of Ballade.
I'd search for a linebreeding to this Reine of the turf not too much diluted.
I found the interesting Sligo Bay, a consistent G1 winner with Ballade in 2nd rem.
This mating would realize a 2x4 to 2 full sisters: the regal Glorious Song and the obscureAngelic Song, and is supposet to inject some stamina..
