What do you think of breeding the mare Music Maker5 (by Jeblar) with my stallion Perfect Circle (Unbridled X Missed The Storm, by Storm Cat)?
I picked this mare out on the proven Unbridled X Alydar cross - which Produced Anees.
a catalog page for Music Maker is at
http://www.mtoba.com/Fall%20Catalog/Hip19.pdf
The mare isn't mine... She is owned by a friend.
She is about 16.3HH.. light chestnut with a flaxen mane and tail. Correct
with good bone and she is VERY well balanced. She fits him bodywise wonderfully!
We would be breeding to race, Possibly to sell- but at a Michigan Sale..

Yeah sure, Unbridled / Alydar may have gotten one GIW in the shape of Anees; but according to some probablity software o' mine the cross had a 65% chance of getting a GIW anyway so its not all that impressive given the smale sample size.
In marked contrast, the Storm Cat / Alydar cross has produced 5 G1Ws (or 5 times as many as the Unbridled / Alydar cross) when the software predicted only 2.15 G1Ws.
"The Storm Cat/Alydar Cross- A Better Result Relative To Oppurtunity Than the Unbridled / Alydar Cross With A Much Bigger Sample Size To Boot".
Also note ye that 2 of the 5 GIWs with the Storm Cat/Alydar cross are BC Winners (Cat Thief and Storm Flag Flying).
That's not to say that the Unbridled/Alydar cross getting Anees is chopped liver or nothing...

ok, I understand that my chances of getting a G1 winner are slim to none lol... but what I was looking at was 5 foals from the Unbridled X Alydar Cross ran and there were 4 winners, which is pretty decent..
So my Unbridled stud that is out of a Storm Cat mare would be a good cross with Alydar more due to the Storm Cat X Alydar crosses??
just trying to get this figured out...
Thanks!

The PQ has 18 foals of racing age by Unbridled with Alydar on the damsire and that's not counting the ones by sons of Unbridled (and remember that the foal you're thinking of breeding will be, in fact, by a son of Unbridled and not Unbridled himself).
Still, i certainly would not call it a bad cross considering it also got Unbridled Jet and you are right; the Storm Cat/Alydar cross in this mating is a big positive in my opinion...
Still, there are some quality issues in this mating and you might want to consider whether or not you have a use for the potential foal other than racing (in case said foal can't make money at it) before you do this mating.
It's good you checked the conformation of the stallion and mare and like the match-up..

llbean,
The mare doesn't have the greatest race record, but has 2 foals to run, both winners. She is a GOREGOUS mare... In my opinion if the foal has no talent as a race horse it should have (going on the sire and dam and luck) good confirmation and size so It would have potential as a hunter jumper or dressage horse. The mare is a beautiful big mover.
The sire is also a great mover and they both have tons of presence, and we are hoping that the foal will get this too!
I wont breed a horse that doesn't have potential in another area if it doesn't make it at the track.
