Unbridled's Song question

Postby Heather T. » Sun Dec 28, 2008 4:57 pm

I've seen references to soundness concerns with the offspring of Unbridled's Song. What are the specific issues that are the source of these concerns? If you don't feel comfortable posting your response to a public forum, please feel free to e-mail me privately.

I've just bought a weanling filly out of an Unbridled's Song mare, but she appears almost perfectly correct. I'm wondering if I'm missing something. Or if there is a problem that she could develop in the future that I should be watching out for.

Thanks,
Heather

I believe knees and ankles were issues with that sire line.

The Unbridled Songs are often big horses that need time to mature. Because they also exhibit early brilliance, many are pushed to perform before they're physically able to withstand the rigors of racing. Treat your new filly with common sense and you should be fine.

we had this dicussion not too long ago. Unbridled's are huge and becuase they show early brilliance they are p ushed early and often not given the time to develop. even so, they are bigger horses and brililance that aren't put on a sound foundation usually is the recipe for a unsound horse.

I was thinking about unbridled song, maybe that's why the unbridled song / storm cat cross is so popular, becuase storm cat's while usually musclar, aren't that big. take a horse like thorn song. he's pretty darn sound. 24 starts and should have more next year.
