Arch

I see that Arch got a dual Gr1 winner in South Africa. The 5yo mare Overarching is out of his first crop. How is he doing in the US generally?

I'm sure others can go more into detail but he started off slowly only to really be on a roll as of late. The female family behind him is proving classy enough to overcome the (at least for now) bad rap of Kris S as a sire of sires.

I own breeding rights to his stakes placed daughter Chitchat Chitchat and I have every confidence he will be a huge broodmare sire as well.

Please excuse my ignorance, but does that mean that you lease the mare for breeding only?

He is creeping up the ranks of prominent sires in 2004-2005, with an ever-increasing number of quality runners. Overarching and Prince Arch are two of his best. His foals tend to start getting their minds on business at about age 4 and get better with age, a lot like Alphabet Soup. His average earnings index among his sire crop is among the top ten and inching upward. His stud fee rose from $5000 in 2004 to $7500, and this year again to $10,000. By the time the November sales came around, his stud book was closed to all but proven stakes winners or producers. His foals sell moderately well, and better now that he is putting out some big horses. His female family is awesome, full of champion racemares and broodmares-of-the-year.

Why did Arch only run 7 times? Did he break down? Does he have unsoundness issues?

No, I went in 50/50 for the purchase price with the agreement that my partner is the controlling race partner and i'm the controlling breeding partner once her race career is over.
