Metfield still looking good for his age

Postby erhrdt3 » Thu Feb 07, 2013 3:43 pm

The Seattle Slew stallion Metfield, is still with us and still looking great. I tried to put his photo thats on the Ups and Downs Farm in Florida on here, but it did not work.

It's nice to see the Slew sons still with us, even though they are getting old now. He was born in '88. My mare is by him and I can see the resemblence very much. His pedigree inq. says that the 'X' factor for him is traced back to Citation. I don't know what that means, can someone inform me what an X factor is in a horse pedigree.

Funny, last time I saw my girl I thought she also resembled Citation in some ways as I have a nice photo of him, something how they give their offspring the looks, mannerisms, etc. of their ancestors. Is there anyone on the board near the farm there in Florida?

Hope all is well with everyone! :D

I had a Metfield son who was magnificent as a jumper and dressage horse (HUGE mover). Tie back surgery was a failure so his freaky speed never made it on the track. Big powerful horse (over 17 hands). Big love muffin too! His name was Fields of Athenry.

Hi Skipitgirl,

Would love to see a photo of your horse! Even though Metfield was not a huge stallion like the warmbloods, I've heard from others that the offspring were big. My mare is 16.3 hands, which is a pretty decent size for a mare. I have tried unsucessfully for years now to find the mother, named That's Fine, and the farm has not returned calls or emails, and she was last listed with them. I assume at this point she is gone from old age (I like to think that) so I don't know much about her except she was a pretty decent mare.

My girl for sure took after her daddy though, the looks, everything, and what brought me to bring up Citation is she has the thickest, longest tail and mane and really resembles him to a point. Metfield I think, stood at The Vinery in KY until he got older and went down to Florida. I've got alot of souveniers of him when he was running, photos, a hat, a little statue, etc. Always wished I could have seen him in person but I don't think I'll make it. He still has the dapples though for an old man! LOL

Again, would LOVE to see your horse if you have some photos to post!
Thanks! :D
