Seeking the Gold is considered by some to be a source of unsoundness. I like the female family though, and it has produced some sires. Race record and speed figures aren't all that spectacular. I'd consider it a bit of a risk.

Ford Every Stream is from a Sam-Son Farm family. In 2002, he was their "big" 3-year-old, and ran 4th in the Queen's Plate. He's a half to SW Surging River, and his half sister Go First Class is the dam of GSW Silver Ticket. He's also a half brother to Ride The Westwind, a MSW winner who has shown some talent. Ford Every Stream's 2nd dam is No Class (need I say more about her???).

I don't find Seeking the Gold's offspring any "un"-sounder than anyone else really. Before we point fingers at STG, should we dig a little deeper to see who his sire and grandsire are? He was a gritty racehorse who faced off against some GOOD horses in the '80's. He has sired some amazing racehorses and has also produced some respectable sons at stud.

Great. Thank you Cree, as this is in line of expectations when I asked about an [educated] opinion. Now I can read pedigrees, and one of the reasons why I paid attention to this stallion is because of his impeccable tail female family, and I also like the Mr. Prospector male line. I agree about your comment on unsoundness. Just reminds me of Danzig, the 'cripple,' lol.

How about Ford Every Stream's conformation? The next thing I'd like to research is why he didn't do better as a race horse. His present stud fee is obviously calibrated along his pedigree and not his racing talent.
Still, I find him a reginal stallion of interest and perhaps potential as a sire, if he can get some decently bred mares to him.

My comment about him was meant to be about his conformation. I thought he was tall, rangy type. I didn't notice anything "wrong" just wasn't impressed. I have a mare with "No Class" in her pedigree and some other blood that I thought should go well with him. After seeing him, I still think he would do well with her....except now we have decided to move and will sell all instead of breed! Go figure!

I think he is pretty common. Wait a couple of years and you can buy him for what his advertised stud fee is.

About his race record, it's been a few years, but I did follow his racing career as much as I could. He last raced in 2004, so he raced to the age of 5. He had some sort of physical problem, that may have stopped him from winning a stakes, I definitely think he was talented enough to win a stakes (at Woodbine).

As for him physically, I haven't seen him in person, just pictures and watching his races on TV. He's a good size, kind of long in the body, and he looks like he doesn't have much of an engine. I think he looks like he should've run long on the grass.

I absolutely agree with this observation and thus also wonder whether he is the right kind of stallion for La. But that's not what I'm interested in. I'm looking for stamina and speed combination which his pedigree seems to portrait.

In the Canandian Classic Queen's Plate he defeated BARBEAU RUCKUS, SHAWS CREEK, STREAKIN ROB, ETC.

HIs pedigree is not so common, I'm afraid.

What is the %age of stallions making it at stud? This is a rhetorical quesiton....

Most stallions can only be as good as the mares brought to him, so you can't blame everything on the stallion. Standing in a regional program cuts his chances in half to begin with, but then that's the way it goes.
People would do better to have realistic goals. I'm not looking to breed for a high stud fee.
