Snowbound Moves On...
...off to California for Snowbound for what sounds like mostly quarter horse-breeding duties:

Wow wish I was closer
Really like him good luck!!

I agree. He hasn't been bred to many good TB mares, but the Pulses supported him well with their good QH mares and it's showing. He has nothing but cheap stakes winners on the TB side (assuming they stay sound long enough or don't have useless pedigrees) and he's got graded stakes horses on the QH side. He'll do much better in CA where he'll get some decent mares.
Todd Pulse told me they basically gave away breedings to anything with a working uterus, regardless of pedigree or conformation, figuring at least one was bound to hit and get him going. They got the first "big runner" with First Snowbound, but he couldn't crack $100k in earnings in two seasons before he broke down, from what I understand. His other TB runners haven't shown much, though he does have a handfull worth a second look, but most of them have quit due to unsoundness, from what I know.
I just wouldn't have one of his TBs on a bet. They're unsound - knees. I have no knowledge of how his QH babies are holding up.

Many of the Snowbound TB's were started too early and pushed too hard.
Since they tend to have big growthy bodies, many owners and trainings
started them too young. If they had been given time, I am sure they would have been more durable.
These last few years Snowbound stood for $2500. he was no longer free,
and I think you will see several lovely TB Northwest crops (05,06,07)
still to come.
I am excited that he is going to get such a great opportunity at a fairly young age...and AI too !

Bound to be MVP
I saw a 3 year old on of his get beat in Edmonton in a stakes race against local 5 year olds and up... but noticed he had ran 5th in the San Vicente at SA, and 3rd in the San Miguel Stakes.
Not sure what the connections were up to at the Stakes two weeks ago there were several 100 k plus earners in the field even if it was a B track.

Its hard to make out what trainers/connections do/or are trying to accomplish some days (though I guess thats why they run the races).
Though I woulda thought they coulda founda "softer spot" but who knows.

Hi
The result of one of my breeding recommendations, Sharper Edge, is conformationally a very nice specimen, and, like many Snowbounds, is a big boy (over 17 hands). Jim Penney has nursed him along nicely, and he has been very useful for his owners. The mare was a $1500 purchase, and the fee for Snowbound was $1000, so he is doing quite well for the initial investment, being a $16,000 WTBA Summer Sale yearling. He is inbred to Raise A Native 4x4, male/female. I wish Snowbound well.

I see he is out this sunday in Hastings in the Richmond Derby Trail Stakes - still not sure what they were doing with him at Northlands August long weekend...
