Since those Euro stallions and BMS dont have available their Stallion AEI and BMS AEI, I would like to know the Euro rating of the stallion Monsun.

How have Monsun mares been producing, any GR SW yet?

I asked my friend from France why the Euro TB dont have any stats available for the stallion and BMS.

All he said was they are not available, Its long past due for those Euro's to get caught up to the computer generation.

First offsprings out of Monsun-fillies are from 2002, so there is not much to mention at the moment. I've 33 fillies by Monsun as broodmares in my private data-base, but most of their offsprings are from 2003 and younger.

Sommertag, 2003, by Tiger Hill out of Sommernacht by Monsun, was unluckily beaten in a Gr3-Derby-Trial at Frankfurt.

Nevertheless Monsun has had many top-class racing-fillies up to now and is a big BMS-prospect, dam winner of a LR out of leading BMS-sire Surumu.

AEI-Indices are not very common in European racing-/breeding-industry. In Germany they are almost unknown and not officially calculated.

In an ordinary BMS-list by money won Monsun is actually (June, 13th) not among the top-30 in Germany, but he clearly leads the sire-list here and is 3rd in France, where Shirocco's prize-money from his 2 English wins this season is still not included. How many German stallions have sired a GR 1 winner outside of Germany ?

Of home-bred sires standing actively at stud in Germany there is only Monsun (Shirocco, Guadalupe - Ital. Oaks).

Lando (now in France) sired Paolini and Lomitas (now in England) sired Silvano.

There are foreign G1-winners of imported sires (Dashing Blade, Java Gold and the late Zinaad) out of German-based mares and of course there are G1-winners of German-based but late sires like Acatenango, Surumu in the past.

Daughters of Monsun at Tattersall’s July Auction this week:

# 136 Dot Com Dot, 2002, out of Number One Spot by Reference Point, sold for 12,000 Guineas = 18,000 Euro = 23,000 USD

# 264 unnamed filly, 2004, out of Wendylina by In The Wings, sold 100,000 Guineas = 150,000 Euro = 190,000 USD

Thanks for the sales update Parlo, I checked the APR for the 1st three dams of the Monsun---Wendylina and their was not a prolific amount of black type to be found.

That Monsun---Wendylina filly must have been an outstanding individual to go that high. Good luck to the new owners and may they have a stakes quality filly in the making.

Monsum entered the German BMS-list of 2006 two weeks ago for the first time and is now 25th in the ranking (8 runners, 3 winners, 4 wins - no black-type for the moment) lead by Monsum's sire Königsstuhl (77 runners, 28 winners, 38 wins).

In the winning-sire-ranking Monsun ist actually 1st in Germany (almost twice as much money won as second and third combined) and 1st in France with just 24 runners (12 winners, leads by around 30,000 €).

Of the 8 runners so far in the stats with Monsun as BSM, I actually can only find 5 of the 2003-generation. The three winners are Inter Mondo (by Hondo Mondo - Caerleon), Aurea (by Silvano - Lomitas – Niniski) and Sommertag (by Tiger Hill - Danehill).

Hondo Mondo is now in Poland - he is underestimated and left Germany before he could justify himself (similar to Kallisto, who is now very welcomed home after some years in Hungary).

Silvano (Arlington Million, now in South Africa) and Tiger Hill (now in England, 2 times winner of GPvBaden, 4th in the Arc) are top international contenders, young sires, who made some promise with their first 2 generations.

Inter Mondo’s dam is unraced, Aurea’s dam earned a rating of 80.5, which is just below a black-type-rating, and Sommertag’s dam got a rating of 90.5, which is a rating of a solid LR-winner/Group-race-placed horse (ratings: 95 kg GAG, official German handicap rating, = 110 lbs IC).

Thanks for your stats Parlo. I did a search on Monsun and I found that Monsun has produced superior nicks when bred to mares that were sons or grand-sons of Northern Dancer.

Those BMS that produced those nicks were. Old Vic----Sadlers Wells----Be My Guest----Barathea----Unfuwain----Ferdinand----and Shaadi.

Shadwell France (Hamdan al Maktoum) bought a Monsun filly, a half sister to 2006 German derby winner Schiaparelli and 2 other "high rank" winners Salve Regina and Samum, for 520.000 EUR at Deauville (18.8.2006).

Monsun sells well. But in this case it is not just Monsun...

Old Vic mares when crossed with Monsun have produced a prolific amount of superior runners. It looks like the royal fellow has done his homework and purchased a diamond in the rough.

Besides unraced Sacarina by Old Vic (dam of Derby-winners Samum, Schiaparelli and Oaks-winner, Derby-runner-up Salve Regina) there is so far only one more Old Vic-mare bred to Monsun: Anna Oleanda, dam of dual winner in France Anna Mona. So much of the “Monsun-Old Vic”-nick is due to Sacarina.

Shirocco’s dam So Sedulous by The Minstrel produced another two group-race-winners as well: Subiaco, Derby-runner-up and Storm Trooper, a Derby-third.So she is almost as good as Sacarina.

Furthermore Assia by Royal Academy is another dam of two group-race-winners: Assiun and Arcadio.

So Monsun does well with mares by sons and grand-sons of ND, which is not surprising as there is not much of Nearco in Monsun and combining both the best sire-lines in Germany (Königsstuhl and Surumu) with the leading sire-line in the world (ND) looks like a commonsense breeding-pattern.

But this is Monsun as a sire and not as a BMS, as at the moment there are only few offsprings (mostly by sires from the ND-line – so the other turn round).
