Problem is that the KY stallion market is generally overpriced, especially for first-year sires -- it's all driven by the commercial market and not by breeding for racing. Just saw where Forest Grove is going to Airdrie for $7500 -- nice sprinter with a good pedigree, but in Florida, I doubt he'd command more than $5000 and might be better placed at $3500-$4000. Things are starting to spiral up a bit here with Adena Springs South and Vinery South both putting some upward pressure on the top of the Florida stallion market but it's still an extremely competitive market in the four-figure range.

Lot of parallels here between the boom yearling market of the early to mid-1980s and the current market to my mind.

Say, has Schwank's baby officially been named, Madelyn? Would like to see pix if I haven't ignorantly missed ones already on the site.

Haven't named him, except "Furball." I am seriously considering taking him to Fasig Tipton February HOA sale, so will probably register him and leave him unnamed. But boy is he gorgeous. I will try to get some pictures next sunny day.

I am working on an analysis of the Keeneland sale just past and an awful lot of the stallions were woefully overpriced. It is a slog, though, and probably won't be finished for a couple more days...
