Euthanized today at age 25. He must have been one of Northern Dancer's best, and remaining, sons.
On the cusp of being called a truly 'great' horse, it was a great pity that his fertility, which began as poor and declined into miniscule, limited his opportunities to sire one in his own mold. The few times I saw him at Ashford I was impressed by his kind nature, unlike his paternal half brother Storm Bird, for whom three tough Irish lads were needed to show him.
RIP.
RIP EL Gran Senor

Oh that's sad.
Not sure why, and I feel kinda silly admitting it, but I thought he'd passed already. I was probably thinking of End Sweep or something. 25 years is pretty good and I hope his last days were full of contentment. Taking into account his physical limitations in the breeding area he's certainly contributed a lot to pedigrees with Toussaud and Bright Candles.

RIP El Gran Senor.
He would have to be older than 25 to have run in the Epsom Derby in 1980.
Was he older? I kinda thought he was
25 isn't that old...but older than so many of these stallions get to last "these days"!
