Hi Folks,
If you still have mares to breed in Kentucky, I have seasons available at favorable pricing for:
SCRIMSHAW, (c. 2000 by Gulch). 2 wins in 2 starts at 2, winner at 3 and 4, $461,842. At 3, Lexington-Coolmore S -G2, 3rd Preakness S -G1, Santa Catalina S -G2. He was 5th in the Kentucky Derby -G1 and 4th in the Belmont S -G1.
In his 2nd start he defeated Eye Of The Tiger (G2) and Ghostzapper (G1), running 6f in 1:08.1. That's a stakes quality allowance race.
He bred 121 mares in his first year at stud with at least 80 foals reported.
A very nice individual who sold for $125,000 as a yearling and $550,000 as a 2yo, see his conformation shot in the Stallion Register.
Gulch is the sire of Thunder Gulch, Golden Gear, The Cliff's Edge and Kipling (sire of Kip Deville) and grand sire of Point Given.
A couple of years ago I posted that Scrimshaw would be a good bubble play given his own precocity and now he's a real bargain. He has 80 foals ready to come out running for you in 2008. Contact me for details if you're interested.
Regards,
Pete

I have a scrimshaw. It is a very intricately carved piece of real ivory, with a very tiny glass loupe at one end. When you view the loupe, it has a beautiful daguerrotype sort of picture of the Opera House in Paris. Mine is an antique, mid to late 1800's.
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

Scrimshaw is the art of carving or etching on ivory, particularly whale or walrus ivory. It is best known as a form of seafarer's art. Whaling voyages would sometimes take a full year or more, and the sailors would keep themselves busy with handwork. Seashell-covered boxes, intricate knitting, and amazing carvings of tropical hardwoods are also traditional seafarer art.
Some of the most beautiful pieces of scrimshaw I've ever seen are at the Whaling Museum in New Bedford, MA. Among other things, a sailor carved a fully working, many-bladed whaletooth fan for his wife. Here is a link to some of their collection. Scroll your mouse over the scrimshaw and enjoy.

Madelyn, your loupe sounds absolutely lovely.
