I had to ask you this. what exaclty do you hate about storm cat so mcuh when you break it down? Do you not like Terlingua? do you not like storm bird or that entire sire line? or do you just do not like storm cat?

for istance I dont' like unbridled's song because well, I just don't care too much for that entire sire line. breeds too much unsoundness and they get more credit than they deserve. I just don't hate unbridled's song.

You like Summer Squall correct? you like roayl Acadamy? Royal acadamy and Terlinguaare half siblings. Summer Squall is by Storm Bird (I think)

I don't hate Storm Cat. What I do hate is him being thought of as Northern Dancer. He's not - he couldn't shine Northern Dancer's shoes.

I was never a Summer Squall fan (I did like him as a racehorse, though), but I do like Royal Academy - I think he offers a lot of value for his fee (7% SWs and $60,000 average earnings/starter ain't shabby for a $15,000 stallion). Chances are that you'll wind up with a grass horse by breeding to Royal Academy, but I don't think that's a negative - they can run!

I like the way royal acadmey's look. I love the way Malengao looks, and he runs just fine on the dirt.

royal acadamy is one of thoose studs that I think if he got a stronger book of mares, eh could produce real world class race horses. i really do.

I totally agree - and being an Ashford Stallion, it's amazing that he's doing as well as he's doing.

Royal Academy has sired world class horses. Just look at his list of top progeny.

For informational purposes only, since you listed Royal Academy's numbers--

Summer Squall's last listed fee was $25,000. He got 11% stakes winners from foals, and his average earnings per starter is $109,988. I always thought he was an underrated sire.

Speaking of Storm Cta--does anybody know what Harlan died of?

Heart attack? I tried to find out, all I could find was "untimely death".

how many SC sons/grandsons have had an early death from a heart attack or ruptured blood vessel?
Tabasco Cat, Hennessy, High Yield, Sailor's Warning, Cat's at Home, a 2 year old in training sale, Hold that Tiger 2 yo in training sale..possibly Harlan.

any more confirmed? Just starting to have a few thoughts that make me go hmmm.

There are SO many SC progeny in the shed, things like this are bound to happen just on sheer numbers. I don't think it compares the to the AP Indys inheriting fertility problems.

One source quoted the French Connections of High Yield as saying he died of Vasquez-Osler syndrome, a Genetic mutation that presents "usually" symptoms at mid age and causes throbosis (blood clots) and usually results in a heart attack or ruptured blood vessel.

Could be mis-interpreted, could be wild speculation, could be a wrong diagnosis? If it is Vasquez Osler (also known as Polycythemia Vera), I wouldn't own a High Yield horse...and would be wondering if he was the source of the chromosomal abnormality (embryonic) or if it was inherited from sire or dam.

So yes, there are certainly enough SC's out there that heart attacks are just going to happen, but...I felt this info warranted a little more thought.
