Now here's a story of a Tourbillion sireline stallion standing in Texas who's get are trained and raced by the stallion owner, a Mr. Kotara, I believe his first name is "Ray", but don't quote me on that.
More importantly these Tourbillions sireline offspring are having some success on the track. From a very few offspring and virtually no promotion/publicity this stallion has had at least two 3YO winners on the Texas circuit between last year and this. Now - this past weekend I saw where he had what I believe is his first 2YO winner going a mile at Sam Houston! I think that win might have been at first or 2nd asking, too.
So now in Texas we have two Indian Ridge stallions: Final Row and Ben's Ridge, both being stood by trainers for very reasonable fees.
Ben's Ridge (Indian Ridge/Ahonoora) had his 1st 2YO winner!
Moderators: Roguelet, WaveMaster, madelyn
Correction - it's "Ron", not Ray Kotara.
He owns the sire; bred, raised and trained G.T. Ridge '05 who won in MSW for Tx-Accredited C&G going 1 mile at SHRP last Friday, winning $9K for the effort and I think this was actually his 2nd lifetime out.
I just think it's really neat to see someone with such committment to their belief in the strength of a pedigree that's rather unusual by today's standards.

Indian Ridge has the ability to sire precocious 2 year olds, and I believe that his sons may have the ability to replicate their sire in that aspect.
My stallion, Legal Jousting, has a small crop of 6 that will be 2 year olds in 2008, and with any luck at all we will see some winners!

Yes K 2 (I don't know how to make the punctuation mark that is part of your username on keyboard?) you're right of course about the Indian Ridge/Ahonoora ability to impart precocity. However, to date from the few runners I've seen of this sireline in US many have typically wanted a bit more ground than the typical MSW is run at - especially when you throw in a desire to race on the turf - and they have also typically run their races in moderate times, so this was an interesting development in Mr. Kotara's latest winner. It should and hopefully will catch the attention of Texas breeders - that his un-promoted, unadvertised stallion of unusual sireline has from very few opportunities - something like 7 nares bred/seasib - produced three winners to date from those opportunities. (I think it's 3 = Patience Ridge and G.T. Ridge I know have won and there's one other who's name I can't recall that I also think won earlier this year or late last) Mr. Kotara's single minded committment to "prove" his stallion all the way from mating to winner's circle is quite remarkable I think.
B/T/W - I really like your stallion Legal Jousting and think in many ways his pedigree is an excellent match for a broader selection of N. American mares b/c of his Fappiano on the bottom side. Opens up the possiblity of outcrossing to the Indian Ridge/Tourbillion sireline while inbreeding to some of the more common 'strength' elements in N. American peds. I'd really like to see his offspring do well.

And Grey Sovereing was also.

The blood of Sainfoin/Sierra and Sundridge also gives speed.

Thanks Roma - This is another Tourbillion sireline stallion I wasn't aware of. He is standing in Germany, correct? Are you standing him to thoroughbred mares for racing or warmblood and TB mares for jumping/show?
He has a very nice 'presence' about him in the photos at your site. I like his appearance - very well made horse.

Update: G.T. Ridge moved up quickly from 7th position to 3rd between the 1/2 and the 3/4's poles in 2YO C&G, Tx-Acc'd, Allowance NWX1 for $16K going 1 mile 70 at Sam Houston last night. Entering the stretch he appeared to have ran out of gas but held on for 3rd place though finnishing back a few lengths from the winner/place entrants.
A stallion having two winners in two years can hardly be called a success. I've noticed these as they seem to almost always be 30-1 to 50-1 & think they might be worthy of incliding in a super box in a turf race but they are not much stock. I met & spoke to the Mr Kotara at a sale a couple of years back he was a very nice guy but knew nothing about pedigrees & I think it really shows in the mares he bred to Ben's Ridge.
I haven't met or spoken with Mr. Kotara as you have, but have watched from 'the sidelines' simply b/c of my interest in the sireline of his stallion and it's potentially being available to Texas breeders (I don't even know if he is open to letting outside mares breed to Ben's Ridge?)
I too have pondered the quality of mares bred to his stallion and the long odds at which they have typically started. Ben's Ridge's success at producing winners and now a 2YO MSW winner at second asking given how few mares have been bred/their less than stellar production histories female family wise, are what give me hope that this stallion perhaps has some prepotent "Indian Ridge" genes to pass along. I think it's safe to say that a Ron Kotara/Ben's Ridge longshot is worthy of consideration, especially if it is a horse that has raced before a time or two. I suspect like many trainers he's one who let's a horse get part of his training/conditioning by actually racing so it takes a race or two to find out where the horse fits.

Indian Ridge was a very quiet, gentle horse. I worked with him for a season and he was nothing but nice 24/7.
