Synthetic Surfaces

Postby Ill-bred » Mon Dec 31, 2007 1:07 pm

I want to share my updated list of stallions whose progeny are running well on the synthetic tracks. This list is a combination of statistics and my own observations from handicapping and watching the races & two-year-old sales.

I'm sure I've missed a few, so please submit other stallions that you feel move up on the synthetics (or can transfer good form from dirt/turf).

I though Whiskey Wisdom had a good year on the poly at Woodbine. Also Ascot Knight.

My friend James, an excellent handicapper based on the West Coast, tells me that horses with Alydar and Machiavelian close up in the pedigree are running superbly on the synthetics.

After checking the statistics, I am adding Benchmark (13.7% Winners, 39.5% ITM) and Street Cry (14.5% winners, 42.7% ITM) to the list...

Ascot Knight added, as the pattern of Danzigs loving the synthetics continues.

Thanks Jenny.

I thought Bold Executive was the man for this surface. Don't know what his stats are though.

IMHO, the Danzig sire line is one of, if not the best, synthetic lines going.

I don't have any stats to back these up, but these are some I like for artificial surfaces. Some are sires whose runners I like to bet when I see them try Artificial for the first time and expect them to move up. Some are sires that we have looked at to use, hoping their runners would have some artificial surface ability.

Mutakddim--we used him as a sire five years ago, so had no thought of artificial surfaces back then. But have been watching his other runners, and they seem to move up on it.

El Prado--I think the Sadler's Well line will do well. El Prado has had some switchover stakes winners, and expect he will have more as he is very versatile. We have a Powercourt yearling, and I am hoping he proves to be good too.

I also like the Nijinski line for Artificial Surface. He has shown his sons make versatile sires, and so I also like

Royal Academy
Sky Classic

Two more I think put out horses that can run on anything:

Elusive Quality
Distorted Humor

I was glad to see you had Van Nistlerooy. We chose him as a sire last year, thinking his kids would do well on AS.

Some others we used that come from lines on your list are Trust N Luck and Cactus Ridge, and we also have upcoming a Harlan's Holiday and Pembroke, so I am happy to see those listed.

Some others I like to bet on artificial surface are:

Cherokee Run
Officer
Bertrando
Langfuhr
Ricther Scale

Like I said, I really don't have any real stats, so look forward to seeing updates of yours. I won't mind at all if the trend in breeding goes to versatile guys like Dynaformer. I think many of the dirt/turf sires produce more sound runners.

Thanks for the info. You mentioned a couple not on my radar, so I will start watching them as well.

I heard this summer they are replacing the polytrack with a summer version using recycled scented candles so the audience gets that flower fresh smell of potpourri !
