Relaunch Stallions

Postby TomFool » Wed May 28, 2008 7:53 pm

I was curious as to others opinions of some Relaunch line stallions as I adore him very much on top or bottom of a pedigree? Here are the ones I'm thinking of to use next year on a couple of speedy Seattle Slew line mares in a regional breed to race operation.
Honour and Glory- solid consistant top 30 sire that is very capable of getting a graded stakes quality horse. His #s on % are scewed a bit from his days at Ashford. I think he is very solid & can be had at a bargain price. I'm 80% sure I'll breed to him next year.
Put It Back- my top choice & probley the most consistant producer of speed there is. He also can get you a top class horse. I think he is a very good sire but maybe out of my price range but is priced right at $7,500.
Captain Countdown- he has not done too bad with what he has had to do with. I have seen a couple of his that were of decent quality sprinters. I really like his outcross hard knocking dam. He is in my area and while a big drop from the top two. I think in breeding to race he may be worth a look. He was 11 for 34 with a top beyer of 104
Spritely Walker- He is by Skywalker & I love Bertrando (too bad he & Stormy Jack are in Cal or I would be all over them) & he has a very good dam even if she was rather obscure breeding. He was a hard knocking La bred horse that I figure did not get much play. He is a bit of a stretch for me plus I've never seen even a pic of him to comment on his size & conformation? If I had to use a La stallion I may investagate him futher. His top beyer was a 98.
Glorious Bid- He is really a stretch but he stands in AR which is where I am so if I breed an Arky bred I may give him a look. (This year I used Hesabull, who I really like in breeding to race). GB is out of a stakes Spectacular Bid mare (more Bold Ruler) & is probley not as bad as he seems at first glance on racing quality. He ran 2nd to E Dubai in his second start as a 2 year old then won next out over a couple of later G3ish horses. He then was tried in the Del Mar Futurity but was overmatched he then got hurt and was done. His best beyer was a 90 as a two year old.
Thoughts?

How about a tough old race horse that ran about 70 times?

Louis Arthur is standing in Arizona but is out of a Slew mare.

Bright Launch in KY. He is especially good with mares that have Mr. Leader. He is in the Thoroughbred Times stallion directory with a picture. His stud fee is $3,500. With Mr. Leader mares 9 foals 8 runners 8 winners 4 stakes winners.

In all fairness, three of those stakes winners, plus at least one other winner by Bright Launch, were all out of the SAME Mr. Leader mare, Double's Lass.

I too really like Relaunch and bred and raced an 04 Captain Countdown filly. She held her own in open company but was not very sound and I retired her. I was surprised as one of the main reasons I like CC is his hard knocking dam. Have an 08 CC colt who is full brother to filly and I am crossing my fingers he will be sounder.

50 foals! Not bad for a horse many people considered a humble bread earner.

Not only did Arromanches run 78 times, but he ran for 9 consecutive years. And he started 10 or more times each year in 6 of those 9 years! Quite a horse! As an 8 year old he started 10 times, won 9 of those races and won $222,000! That's worth something.

Wish his current owners would post a picture or tell us something about him.

Cee's Tizzy has retired. But Bertrando and Stormy Jack are still out there.
