Perfect Soul

Postby Strategic Maneuver » Mon Dec 21, 2009 1:48 pm

I was wondering if anyone on forum had any positive or negative thoughts on this guy. I'm looking for a son of Sadler's Wells for my Is It True mare and he seems to work with her on paper.

Mare's name is Bien Sur. She ran pretty well, knocked out her first two conditions in first two starts, ran for crap at Keeneland, went to Arlington, came up with paralyzed flap and EPM. Retired her. Probably should have tried a tie back. She's close if not 17 hands, very correct, very sound and looks more like a European TB to me. Neck may be a little short.

2 cents worth

Looked real hard at all of Darby Dans during the contest and decided I would not breed to Perfect Soul for free, his numbers just aren't good enough. Not to say he is not capable of getting a good one here and there most stallions are. I say paper schmaper look for a proven one getting it done.

Thanks O, appreciate input. That's why I was asking forum. I live in the boonies and rarely have a handle on what's really happening.

We had bought a mare in foal to Perfect Soul and sold the resulting foal as a yearling, this past September, he was a big, good looking colt, correct, good xrays & scope. He just was not a popular sire, we got $12,000 for him. He is one had i been in a position i would have kept him and raced him. We sell in Ontario.

There have been a number of winners here in Ontario, including Perfect Shower in the Canadian Breeders, but i agree although i loved the colt, i would go proven as well. Perfect Souls brother Not Impossible has been more of a sire success, but he died a number of years ago. He stood here in Ontario. :(

Let us know who you decide on.

Thanks West, I've never been very successful in selling commercially so I just breed to race now. I saw in the BH that his sales figs were really low and wondered why. Glad you got a good looking one. Have you seen many others?

Sales figures are always skewed to favor sires who beget offspring who look like they are ready to run. Everyone wants an immediate ROI and most are not prepared to spend money on something they might have to wait 18 months to see hit the track.

Hi I have seen a number of them and i have found them to be over all good looking horses. I can say the one we had was the ugliest weanling i have ever had..lol but man he looked great when we sold him. If you pm me i can send you some pic's if you like.

Have a good look as well at his runners at Woodbine, as this fall he had a number of runners win. Roger Attfield has a ton of them as he trained Perfect Soul & Charles Fipke is a client still.

I actually no someone who has at least 1 season to him he would sell i think, as he use to gallop the horse. I would just pass on his info if you were interested & you could deal directly with him. :)

Thanks all, truly. Being a not real bright pedigree person, I usually fly by the seat of my pants and go with my gut feeling, so I will most likely breed her to Perfect Soul. The folks are so great at Darby Dan that I will probably send another mare with her!

Would love to see your pics West. Will pm.

83 3yos 27 winners. It's kind of at the point where it doesn't matter what they look like especially if your breed to race it's a matter of can they run. So far from 149 foals of racing age, maybe 2 have earned enough to pay their way, the other 147 have lost money. These numbers will get better but there are some nice stallions in this range where your odds go way up.

May be true, but I have my heart set on breeding her to a son of SW and my bank account is limited. Lucky for me, this mare tends to reproduce herself, so I am optimistic, but thanks for the advice, it's what I wanted when I started this thread.

Strategic Maneuver,
Like I said I expect he'll get better results with time and wouldn't be suprised at at all if he hits a couple of homeruns, I hope yours is one of them. Best of luck.
