Re-phrase

Postby Ruffian » Mon Feb 14, 2005 11:07 am

Dear members of the board ( )

I have just purchased another stallion- yes this one is UNRACED  - But I got him for a good deal

His name is 'KING OF FORTUNE' (gotta love the name), 1999 Darshaan x Spring Daffodil (Pharly) He is unraced due to an accident on the gallops but is sound,

Any opinions???

(Please?) :D

Just to re-phrase I bought this stallion as a teaser (he is a puppy dog & hes already covered for 2 seasons.) I was just wondering if anyone thought it would be worth covering him to a mare- or just strictly tease & bounce? (I'll be able to get a couple friends warmbloods or something for him to get it once and a while anyway). :?:

Hi Ruff,

This is taken verbatim from my previously mentioned mating recommendations for the Canadian Stallion Legal Jousting (note that a lot of the following applies to crossing King of Fortune on an Ahonoora mare):

"Both Legal Jousting’s grandsire Indian Ridge (who had Court Martial in his 4th generation), and his sire Indian Ridge (who was 4x4 to Court Martial’s daughter Discipliner), love returns of even more Court Martial.

Court Martial being found in the dams of Ahonoora’s GI Producing daughter Zodiac Miss (a mare 5x5 to Court Martial who
became the dam of Azeri, who is 6x6x6 Court Martial), Ahonoora’s Irish Classic Winning son Indian Haven (5x6x6 Court Martial), Indian Ridge’s BC Mile Winning daughter Ridgewood Pearl (5x6x6 Court Martial), and Indian Ridge’s BC Mile winning son Domedriver (6x6x7 Court Martial).

A very strong source of Court Martial is Theatrical; whose dam Tree Of Knowledge was 4x4 to him. Theatrical is perhaps the
ideal source of Court Martial for Legal Jousting as his sire is Nureyev, a ¾ brother of Legal Jousting’s damsire Sadlers Wells
who has combined with him in the significant GI Winners El Condor Pasa, Divine Proportions, Whipper, Carry On Katie, and the
Chilean Galan Fantasma.

The other best source of Court Martial for Legal Jousting is Northern Dancer’s son Lyphard, who was out of a Court Martial
mare. Lyphard and Legal Jousting’s grandsire Ahonoora have combined in the GIs Azeri; Waky Nao; Indian Haven; and Dragon
Pearl, the dam of the New Zealand GIW Maguire. Note that in the case of Dragon Pearl the Lyphard came through Monteverdi,
who was a ¾ brother to Jadina, a daughter of Lyphard’s son Pharly and the dam of Azeri’s sire Jade Hunter.

And yet another excellent source of Court Martial for Legal Jousting is a son of Tudor Melody named Welsh Pageant, who was
out of a Court Martial mare. Welsh Pageant was the damsire of a MG3 Winner and GI Placed son of Ahonoora named Inchinor
and has also combined with Ahonoora in the tremendous 2004 European Horse of the Year and English Oaks, French Oaks
(GI) and BC Filly and Mare Turf (GI) Winner Ouija Board. Welsh Pageant has also combined with Legal Jousting’s damsire
Sadlers Wells in a BC Winner, namely BC Turf (GI) Winner Northern Spur.

Another good broodmare sire for Legal Jousting is Darshaan, a justly legendary nick with Sadlers Wells who traces back in the
female line to Frizette (13-c), the 3rd dam of Legal Jousting’s male line ancestor Tourbillon. Note also that Darshaan’s dam
Delsy was linebred 4x5 to Tourbillon himself and Darshaan’s sire Shirley Heights and Legal Jousting both trace back to the
Conduit Mare Valve (1-l) through a daughter of English Derby Winner Blue Peter.

And besides the positive of Darshaan being a very strong nick with Legal Jousting’s damsire Sadlers Wells, there is also the
positive of Darshaan’s sire Shirley Heights nicking quite nicely with Legal Jousting’s grandsire Ahonoora in the French Oaks
(FR-GI) Winner Latice."

Eeiry, huh?

Even though I'm sceptical of a unraced stallion prospect; the fact that King of Fortune is by Darshaan (who returns Ahonoora his male line ancestor Tourbillon though the linebreeding to him in his dam Delsey), and out of a G3W mare by Pharly o/o a Welsh Pageant mare (thus making her 4x4 to Court Martial), makes me think he might be worth trying with some Ahonoora mares. You might also want to try working Sadlers Wells in there because of the Darshaan (assuming of course a compatible conformational match-up between sire and mare).

BTW, how'd it go with Juddmonte (Beat Hollow / Oasis Dream) and Abby Goa?

hi ilbean- I haven't got a clue whats happening with abby goa yet. Oasis Dream has a reserves list. Beat Hollow well I was looking into him and he is tiny and not the best specimen imo, and she is tiny and not overly impressive I don't know if they'd be a match made in hell <looks wise> probably be great on paper but hideous to look at!

I was looking at Polish Precedent but I think the buffs at darley nominations get a vacation from Feb-Nov!!!

His small size sure didn't hurt Beat Hollow as a racehorse; though the fact that you say Abby Goa is not just small but also unimposing does bother me (by which I mean, your description of Beat Hollow indicates he might need more substance in his mares than Abby Goa is likely to provide).

Another excellent pedigree match-up I just noticed is the Champion 3YO Colt Desert Prince, whose sire Green Desert is (in my opinion) an even better nick with Ahonoora than Green Desert's sire Danzig; the two combining in the high-class and major runners Shinko Forest and Green Desert, the latter of whom has become quite a sensation at stud.

Also note the very interesting fact that Desert Prince, though a very young stallion, has already combined with Ahonoora in the G2W Captain Hurricane; with Dr Devious's damsire Alleged in the Italian Classic Winner Spirit of the World; with Abby Goa's 2nd damsire Green Dancer in the G2W Kalaman; and inbreeding to Mill Reef (who would be inbred to 3x4 in the hypo with Abby Goa) through Desert Prince has already worked in the G3W and Irish 2000 Guineas (GI) Placed colt France.

Also impressively, Desert Prince is bred on the same Danzig/Bustino cross that produced the GIW Maroof; who sired the Champion NZ 2YO Colt Maroofity from another granddauther of Ahonoora. Also, Ahonoora and Busted alone combined in the very nice looking Queen Elizabeth (GI) Winner Summoner.

Here's a very interesting link to the farm that stands Desert Prince that points out some of his many accomplishments: http://www.irish-national-stud.ie/desertprince.html .

BTW, I rather much like Green Desert as a sire of sires.

I loved the look of Desert Prince but he is in Ire. and quite a out-of-pocket, but he did have a 2.3 million pound houghton yearling first crop! whom was out of a Ahonoora mare. albeit half to greats! ('Dubai Sun' out of Park Express- but raced 5 x and did diddly!)

I did manage to chat to darley but they said Reset- Somehow I think not- the reasons were because Dizzy De Lago is Australian he is australian and he would be an outcross to 5 gens- but didn't really give me much hope otherwise and still even though the season is in full swing are still only offering advertised fee....

I really am at a dead-end at the moment, but not really wanting to breed her to staging post either. :x

However since a third party even think DP might be good- I'll give them a phone see if they are willing to go down a little- and see what I can do as Desert Prince when I got her was a 5 star match imo.

Thanks
