Is Stephen Got Even moving up?

Postby drsamurai » Wed May 19, 2010 7:23 am

With I Want Revenge last year and First Dude and Schoolyard Dreams this year, is Stephen Got Even's stock going up? Does anyone see his stud fee or his yearling prices going up?

Certainly his reputation as a sire of racehorses is rising. At the moment his stud fee is tied to his past sales results. If buyers look with more favor upon his yearlings in July, August, and September due to what First Dude and Schoolyard Dreams have accomplished, then his stud fee will most likely rise as well.

Most likely scenario is that his sales yearlings will be cherrypicked. The best ones will go for higher prices than SGE has seen in the recent past, but the bulk of them probably won't see a major upswing. On the other hand, I'll bet a lot more shoppers will take a serious look at them.

SGE has always been a good sire of racehorses but has never been fashionable nor has he bred big books. Part of the problem is that he is not syndicated (Hilbert owns him) and therefore does not have 20-40 invested cheerleaders.

I for one, hope that he stays under the radar - I have used him every year for my clients' mares and we have had racing success. Note also that he is one of the few sons of AP Indy at stud that does not already carry Mr. P - significant because he is therefore able to provide linebreeding to Myrtlewood via a Mr. P line mare (or a mare carrying Mr. P).

I doubt his fee will change as the economy/market is so difficult (they probably will be firm at the advertised fee) and his book of mares will likely stay below 100. He is simply not commercial/fashionable, and until he has a "Curlin" he will not be fashionable. Remember Smart Strike prior to Curlin?
A difference of opinion is what makes horse racing and missionaries.

I could see him ticking upward a bit kind of like Northern Afleet did, maybe more depending on how his 3yos fare the rest of the year. I think he' a real bargin if your trying to win a Classic on a budget.

I am assuming the people that send their mares to sprinting stallions might not be......or lets say, not trying as hard.
