Looks like he likes solid old-fashioned lineages. Somehow similar to Alphabet Soup. Lets see. Interesting!

I'm surprised too. I'm also happy to see a less popular sireline having some success.

He is now first in the Freshman Sire List.

So if Giacomo finishes first in the freshman sire's list for this year, will the Mosses breed Zenyatta to him next year?

Just goes to show how breeding is far from an exact science.

I am as shocked as everyone else to see Giacomo leading the 2 year olds list, there is some signs that his get could start and win at two.
Giacomo was a winner at 2 and SP at 2. His dam won the Pasadena Stakes at 2. So I guess there was a few clues there.

Shergar

"Stunned" would be my initial reaction to Giacomo's current position atop the Freshman Sire Standings...however...
I will happily book bets at 20-1 for anyone wanting to wager that Giacomo is Leading Freshman Sire on 12/31/2010.
Actually I may offer 200-1!

it's not that far fetched.
it's not like giacomo didn't start racing until he was 4 or anything. he was pretty precious.. enough to be basically thrown on the triple crown trail. people forget just how precious a triple crown trail horse has to be.
IMHO it's just that you don't think early speed when you think of giacomo. you think slow plodder
IMHO bluegrass cat as i have said since the day he has retired, is going to be storm cat's best son at stud. book it, mark it down, take a picture.

Yeah, the leading Freshman sire in early June is pretty meaningless.
Virtually all of his progeny earnings are from restricted races in Texas.
Unless they're going to offer about 30 more divisions of the TTA Sales Futurity Stakes, then Giacamo's not likely to remain anywhere near the top of the Freshman Sire list.

Seeing how I have a half sis to henny Hughes, I'm really hoping he turns it on. But I am planning on sending a mare to holy bull next season so I'm hoping giacomo has a great freshman year. Seeing how his big winners are in Texas so far, could that mean he will be in Texas if his kentucky get don't win at big tracks like Churchill or Belmont?
