Things on the improve in Alberta?

Postby CdnDerbyFan » Fri Feb 18, 2005 2:43 pm

I don't have any pretension about my knowledge of pedigrees (as it's like near zero) however, I would venture to say that ahead of a new track being built in Calgary that this list is on the improve. Sons of good stallions have made their way to us, let's hope they improve the stock and the racing here in Alberta!

Alberta is on a huge upswing! The industry looks like it will do well this year!
I've been watching like a hawk and might just send some babies to AB this year. Congrats to all of the AB breeders :)
Always bet on the grey!!

I think the new track in Calgary is going to have a positive imact on racing in BC as well. A facility like that will be an asset to all of us on both sides of Alberta. I think the racing industry on the whole is on the way up. There is talk, and some of it rather serious, about re-building Sagebrush Downs in Kamloops to house TB, QH, and Harness racing. The Kamlopps and Merrit Indian bands are working on getting a destination resort and casino built, new tracks, barns etc sometimes in the next couple years. That would be huge for the area for sure, and cut out a lot of costs for the small time guys.

Hey Shanny, I'm in Edmonton. I'm a fan of the sport but have not yet owned any of my own horses. A long time ago (early 80's) dad owned a bunch of horses here in Alberta, Just a Brat perhaps being the best.

It would be decent to get another racino up and running anywhere that can support it in BC/Ab.

How's the weather in Edmonton? I just bought another TBmare to compliment my crew of 8 (only 2 TB mares, 2 QH's (one race bred, one pleasure-bred), a standardbred, and a grade mare I am convinced is a TB. I also have one Morgan mare retired, and a morgan/QH cross gelding sale pending.
