Distorted Beauty is running in the Flower Bowl G1 on turf at 1 1/4 at Belmont Oct 3.
http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/ ... owl-repeat

Distorted Beauty is the last ML betting choice at 20/1. She ran in a G3 and a G2 and both times got buried and finished up the track. Like her sister Invading Humor she needs to be shown the front. But she has come from further back than her sister and won very well at 1 1/8 last time. There are 8 horses in the $500,000 Flower Bowl, many are closers and the 1 1/4 distance makes it unlikely that the fractions will be very fast. If Distorted Beauty runs well on the expected off track she won't get buried and should run her race. She has to step up in class as well as distance to look good here.

Distorted Beauty "stumbled inward awkwardly at the break" in the G1 Flower Bowl, but she was stalking in 2nd by 1/4, stayed there through 1/2 then started to back off at 5/16 and gave way entering the stretch to finish 7th.

Distorted Beauty never ran on turf worse than good. Today the turf was so soft the fractions were a crawling 26.45, :52.78, 1:18.10 and 1:42.28 - nevertheless, she got into position in spite of stumbling so she handled the ground. But the stumble and soft turf took a lot out of her because she gave way before she'd have even been asked to run under normal circumstances.

Fateel was the ML favorite in a 12 horse 1 1/16 turf race. All the races at Indiana Grand came off the turf and were run on a sloppy, sealed dirt track. Fateel ran and went off as the favorite of the 4 horses remaining. He came from behind and won easily. It was his second victory, the first was at 1 1/8 on turf. A dual surface horse, likes an off track.

Fateel is 3. He's a closer and he can show a big kick even with a bad trip. He's had some bad trips because he's devoid of early speed. The time he was forwardly placed he faded badly at a mere mile. A horse like that doesn't win much. To his trainer he's an underperforming colt I guess. He's already run 8 races most of them at 1 1/16 or 1 1/8 - now he's at Indiana Grand and the claim price is going down. So far a horse devoid of early speed that runs long and mainly on turf hasn't attracted a claim.

As someone who watches Invasors Fateel looks like one that could really step up at 4 or later and beat up on older horses with All American distance limitations. Maybe train him at altitude, it worked really well for Mine That Bird. More likely he gets claimed and used up on shorter races. Humbug.

Al Faatik finished 2nd of 7 in a mile allowance at Portland Meadows. He and the favorite came from mid-pack. The favorite stayed inside while Al Faatik went 5 wide around the turn, made his bid inside the quarter but couldn't catch the favorite.

Both Distorted Beauty and Invading Humor are entered in the 200K Ticonderoga at 1 1/16 on turf on Oct 24 at Belmont.

Discreet Marq won this last year easily, she is a G1 winner as a front runner and this is her distance. Distorted Beauty has placed in stakes races but not won yet, I suspect her connections really, really want a stakes win this year. Her sister Invading Humor is a multiple stakes winner and was scratched from the Hettinger, which she won last year to run here. I wonder if she'll be sent to the front? A speed duel would not be in her best interest. Mah Jong Maddnes and Neck of the Moon also have fast early pace.

Adeem is BAACK. He raced poorly on turf in the UK at 2, was sold to Fellowship racing in Sweden and had a very good year at 3 on dirt with 2 wins and 3 seconds at 2000m and longer. He was injured at 4 and finished up the track in all his races and I assumed he was retired. But no, he went to Norway where he just finished 2nd at 2400m on dirt.

Invading Humor and Distorted Beauty finished 1-2 in the 1 1/16 mile Ticonderoga Stakes. Invading Humor went right to the lead, pressed by a speed horse in 2nd with the even money favorite, Discreet Marq, attending in 3d, ready to pounce on the winner of the speed duel with Distorted Beauty coming from behind. But today the lead was the place to be because traffic hell developed behind. Invading Humor was first at every call and won by 1 3/4. Distorted Beauty went wide for her bid then was carried inward, forced to check, bumping one horse and clipping heels with another and putting two different horses in tight briefly. She angled back out and surged to just get a rather heroic second place. Only 7 1/2 lengths separated the 10 that finished.

Invading Humor's winning strategy.

I was curious about why several horses that beat Invading Humor in the Yaddo got nowhere in the Ticonderoga. Traffic? Yes, but something else caused the traffic and hurt the closers badly: Invading Humor led a slow half in 47.42 (bad for closers, everybody could keep up without spreading out, promoting traffic problems) - then she sped up. Each fraction was faster than the preceeding one, not slower. She ran the mile in a sharp 1:34.01 and was never seriously challenged.

Aniar finished 2nd by a nose as the 1.40 favorite at 6.5f at Delta Downs. After dueling for the lead on the outside, "battled up the backstretch", kept on and gained a short margin in deep stretch but was caught in the final stride.

Goldtonic made her debut over hurdles today in a 2 1/4 mile hurdle MSW at Aiken. Two miles into the race she was a head behind the second place horse who fell over the last fence. Goldtonic then fell over the downed horse (she must have been next to her). They both walked off the track. Hopefully neither was injured. Only 4 of the 8 starters finished the race.

Sometimes a horse is not the same after falling, it happened to the French hurdler North Invasion after the Listed Stakes from hell (the 1-2-3 horses all fell over the last fence, decapitating the field. North Invasion was leading). Goldtonic looked much better in this race than in the flat, good luck to her.

Invading Humor is headed to Chruchill Downs to run in the Cardinal Handicap G3 at 1 1/8 on turf Nov 21.
Her most impressive opponents are closers: Faufiler multiple graded stakes placed in France by Galileo out of Six Perfections, Emotional Kitten multiple graded stakes placed, Button Down, graded stakes placed in Canada. A competitor for the front is Kiss Moon, a G3 winner. PPs:
