Bring me a son of Brian's Time

Postby oliverstoned » Fri Feb 04, 2011 6:44 am

He of course has been overshadowed by Sunday Silence in Japan but has done quite nicely at stud. He is a grade one winner on dirt, classic placed and a millionaire. Being a top dirt horse by Roberto I think the American gene pool could really use a son of his. Is there anyone forward thinking enough to import one.

If Sunday Silence sons had done better in the US (and yes, there are few) I think your suggestion would have more traction. That said, I just don't see anyone jumping at this idea.

Huh? Sunday Silence is a son of Halo and Silent Name and Hat Trick have not had any runners yet. I don't think it's fair to make any conclusions based on a few obscure regional sons that SS has had here so far. The nice thing about a Brian's Time here would be there would be no Halo in there thus satisfying people who have an aversion to the Halo line.

my point wasn't about his pedigree but the perception of an imported Japanese horse failing here. If the super Sunday Silence doesn't have credible sons here, what other Japanese stud stands a chance.

Were the Japanese willing to let any of the really good sons of Sunday Silence go?

Can't see a bias against Japanese studs until Silent Name, Hat Trick and even Utopia have runners here. Good point xfactor these aren't top tier SS sons anyway. Springboro I agree it's a tough sell, kind of like what Darby Dan is doing with All American. The ideal would be someone with a broodmare band that would like to try and improve the breed here.

Yes and no. Some of the better ones shuttled to Australia--notably Fuji Kiseki, who didn't have too much success. Bloodline-wise, the things that worked with him were all in Europe. That came to a screeching halt with the EI outbreak in Australia. Since then, no Japanese horses have shuttled there.

Otherwise, most of the best-performing sons of Sunday Silence have remained in Japan. The majority of SS sons outside Japan are Gr-2 or Gr-3 winners, with Silent Name, Sub Rosa, and Layman being the best of the lot.

I used to play the Sunday Silence game while watching Japanese racing, looking up the breeding of horses as they walked to the post, and seeing how many sons, grandsons, daughters, granddaughters were racing against each other.

Japan is going to have to be careful since there is so much Sunday Silence blood in their gene pool.

If anyone wanted to do a study on how a the stud career of a horse is shaped by the public, and private agendas of the connections, Sunday Silence would be a great candidate.

Xfactor
When I contacted Darby Dan, they were looking to inbreed the Halo lines and Tale of Ekati as of last week had very few chances to get in. The manager told me that if you have a halo inbreeding it has produced 52 stakes winners.
