I don't get it. There is a colt in tonight in Pen's 7th named Occelli. Its a mcl15,000.
Of interest is that he's a son of Bernardini, but what I don't get is that he's out of an unraced mare who's out of a claimer that in a full breeding career never produced anything of note. The breeding itself is pretty obscure.
My question is- how did this mare get into his book. Granted its a Darley bred- but why would they choose this mare? He's a March foal so its not any test breeding.
Any thoughts?

I'm not sure what you're looking at but the dam of Occelli has two graded stakes winners, one of which was a highly regarded Derby horse his year for Baffert after selling huge in a 2 yo in training sale and the filly, G1 winner Wild Fit, was an extremely talented and hyped filly. Both were outstanding physical specimens to boot. Unfortunately, Wild Fit died young and Fusaichi Rock Star is standing stud in Louisiana.
I have no doubt Darley wanted a strong producer like that in an unproven stallion's book. Unfortunately, Granny's Feather died in 09.

the amazing things I find on this board! " Catherine Hudson then purchased mare from a sheriff's auction sale for $500. See Jan. 2006 The Florida Horse p.24 "
and Jorge brought her up earlier in this thread: http://www.pedigreequery.com/forum/view ... b00e141cf7
