WinStar buys Pauls Mill Stallions

Postby da hossman » Fri Jul 29, 2011 1:59 pm

OK it is not exactly what the header says, WinStar has purchased Ben Walden's interests (or a significant part of his interests) in the 4 Pauls Mill stallions and the horses are moving to WinStar. Bellamy Road is a success, Artie Schiller may or may not shuttle back from Australia where he has been more successful, Summer Bird is attractive and unproven, US Ranger unproven and entering bubble years. All these horses are syndicated and have shareholders other than Ben Walden. In fact Artie Schiller is 50% owned by Australian interests, and Jayyarman's retained significant interest in Summer Bird. Still had to be a whole lotta dough to make BPW give up control.

WinStar's president is Elliott Walden, Ben Walden's little brother, hmmm...
A difference of opinion is what makes horse racing and missionaries.

My first thought was, I hope Kenny Troutt had an objective pair of eyes take a look at this sweetheart deal.

My second: it seems to me that Ben Walden's passion lies more in restoring farms and turning them into showplaces than it does in standing stallions. It wasn't very long ago that he was at Hurricane Hall with other stallions (like English Channel) who also relocated when he moved on.
