Heatseeker to stand at Harris Farm

Postby fastappy » Fri Oct 21, 2011 8:22 am

Sounds like good news for California to me. Some good stallions coming into the state reflects some optimism by the stallion owners. Barrett's finished off on a up note as well, and breeding declines are less significant as in other states as a percentage.

He covered 82 mares in his first season (2009), 57 in his second season and 22 this year in Kentucky. I don't know the reason for the drop off except he was mainly a turf/synthetic runner with one race on dirt. A drop in mares is not unusual in the soph season, but the Kentucky people lost interest in him in a hurry. Could his foals look that bad???????

I don't know 1st hand, but you're probably on the mark as his foals have not sold that well imo on a 10K (20?) fee. Hopefully some one here will chime in on their observations of the conformation of his foals.

He'll have to come out swinging with his 1st foals for that $6,500 fee in California, to become viable in the sales ring. He sure was quite a runner and has a very nice pedigree to be successful as a sire of runners.

Well there are quite a lot of sons of Giant's Causeway standing in KY for quite a lot less money. I think that's really the rub.
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

Good point Madelyn! GC has yet to prove himself as a sire of sires at this juncture.

From Thomas Clark Bloodstock; (I'm sure this will change with the transfer to Cali)

One of three top Giant's Causeway sons on dirt; Very good horse a little overlooked right now - Based on this Farm's track record should follow closely. Foals are very good based on several seen over the summer. Shamardal certainly getting it done and if Storm Cat is to carry on in NA it will be this strain. Luckily Danzig having a resurgence as well in NA.
