Fort Prado

Has anyone personally viewed this stallion now standing in KY at Buck Pond Farm? I've tried to find a website for BPF but my search has come up bottomless.

He is in the stallion register

but their website is "down for maintenance" ..
Didn't Fort Prado also stand in Illinois for a while?

Fort Prado stood at Hill n'Dale in IL. He had a first crop of three. Thanks for responding. I had been to the directory page you linked previously, but when I tried the website I got an error. At least now, it shows the data base is being updated as you pointed out.

Apparently Buck Pond Farm has been operating for sometime. I just can't figure out whether it has been dealing with Thoroughbreds. I wonder if Fort Prado is their own TB stallion?

Buck Ponds site seems to have been down for a year, I was looking for the webpage when there studs where in last years Keeneland Nov, as far as Fort Prado, he is a very racing looking horse (he had just cooled out from a stake), overall nice package very friendly. I flew to Arlington to look at him as a stud prospect before I closed the deal to stand Swain.
I am at a friends but will post some of the photos I took of him front side and back. Team Block owned him racing and at stud nothing from the press release said he was sold so I would assume they still own him.

kudos for his soundness to have raced for as long as he did..

Buck Pond stood stallions Lost Soldier, Bull Market, State City, Seattle Fitz, Colonial Colony, Hero's Tribute, Mor Luc, Crafty Shaw, Evansville Slew, Thunderello, Doneraile Court, etc..

However PNC filed charges earlier this year they defaulted on a loan. So maybe they cleared themselves of that since March, but I don't know..

I just know from personal experience of trying to book a mare to one of their studs last season that someone was only in the office a few days a week. So it made it difficult.

I hope they have a good season with their new stud.

Perfect timing! If anyone goes, I'd love to hear some opinions. Thanks.

There will be an open house at Buck Pond Farm in Versailles, Kentucky on December 16, 2011 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. to introduce their new stallion, Fort Prado. Everyone is welcome to see this eight-time champion son of El Prado (Ire) and lunch will be available.

I was stabled in the next aisle to Buck Pond, recently at Fasig Tipton October. Doug Arnold is still a high-energy, tough sort of go-getter - I think they have not had any of the kind of luck one needs to supplant the hard work in this business. The website is one of the casualties in any business if cash flow is tight (let's see.. hmm.. buy grain or pay the website programmer)

I may head to the open house next week.

Sounds like they are serving lunch. Maybe it'll be free. I hope you go. I look forward to hearing your take on FORT PRADO.

Shammy, it looks like Fort Prado bred 60 mares in 2010. The link below is to an older Hill N Dale ad with this info. He had 3 weanlings sold at auction this year with a median of $51k (mean $57k). He was well received for an Illinois stallion, and as an Illinois breeder, the nicest stallion the state had stood in a long time. I hope he does well in KY!

Fort Prado is at Hill N Dale in Barrington, Il.
I went out to see him a few weeks ago.

Very impressive!

Prairie, it was announced that he was moving to Buckpond just last week. Sad for the Illinois program but hopefully onto bigger things for him.

As you know my health is my first priority, but I've got a couple of mares that match up well with FORT PRADO, so just in case everything turns for the best I want to have my "ducks" in a row. FP is definitely a very fine specimen, I am sure you will agree. As I've often heard you say, "Am I crazy?" :D

Best wishes.

Bring him a Theatrical daughter or granddaughter to linebreed the good mare Pange, the 5th dam of Fort Prado and third dam of Theatrical.

Exactly. You read my mind.

With Theatrical now pensioned, only two stallions remain in the U. S. that carry Pange in the female line. Fort Prado is one of them. The other stallions are in Japan, Australia, and South America. The shame is that many quality lines are being sold overseas and we are eliminating the chances of maintaining the solid producing lines like Pange's in North America. We need to be thinking long term investment and not short term profits.
