Looking for a Mid Atlantic sire 16hh or under.

Postby Blue feather » Sun Dec 18, 2011 10:44 am

I'm looking for a sire to physically match my smallish (15.2)Citidancer mare. I prefer a son of Storm Cat or A P Indy, but will consider other lines if its a good physical match. On paper, I love Freud but not sure how tall he is. If you have seen Freud, I'd like to have an opinion on him. I've seen Petionville who is 15.3 and stands in PA. He is one I am considering.

Petionville is a nice stallion with decent stats.. However, I don't understand how he commands $6,000 when Lion Hearted, a Storm Cat son goes for $3,000.

Lion Hearted is 16.1 hh which is outside your 16 hh and under but Petionvile is not o/o Storm Cat or AP Indy.

I do not put a whole lot of stock in eNicks but it's an available tool.

Have you done a Mare Match with your mare??

good luck

Griff--my sense is some of the bigger-name breeders are trying to cash in on PA and NY breeders' awards, and are pricing their stallions at Kentucky fees in a regional market. I mean, Bluegrass Cat at $17,500 in NY when you can get Freud for $10,000? E Dubai for $9000 when you can get Grand Slam for $12,500? Please.

I don't think that's what is going one as you do not have to breed to a PA stallion to get a PABRED

Don't know about NY

I've always understood Petionville to be regarded as a strong breed to race sire from a desirable sire line in Seeking the Gold. I just compared stats between he and Lion Hearted and certainly can see him as priced higher based on his results as a sire. Still does not mean $6k is the right price for the Midatlantic market!

The two stallions appear to have different physical types based on their conformation photos which could weigh in on any decision. Not a huge Storm Cat fan but do love Lion Hearted's dam line.

Have you looked at Oratory?
