Why the jibe against Dr. Hansen? Is it envy or anger or both. Hansen the horse is not just another stakes winner sired by Tapit, he is an undefeated Grade 1 winning 2 year old champion. What were you thinking, certainly not with your head. You have your opinion as to nicking systems, you have a right to your opinions. Dr. Hansen can do what he wants without comment or judgement from you, that is unless you have bred an undefeated champion, then what you say and what you think might be relevant, until then what you write and what you think smells a lot like sour grapes to me.

I think you're taking this too seriously, DDT. My aim was meant to be directed at Nicksters' willingness to take credit for obvious affinities, while at the same time disowning any responsibility for failures.

Then just say what you mean Michael, that's all it takes, I love humor in any form, and I have always taken thoroughbreds and successful breeders, owners, grooms, trainers and jocks seriously. Sorry if it upset you, but I have to admit that was my desired result. What is your take on the "speed gene" articles?

Not a Jersey guy, just moved here last year from Delaware but I was born and raised in West Grove, Pa., not far from Miles Valentine's place in Unionville, Pa., ever heard of him?

Oh yes, the steeplechase owner/breeder. He raced some good ones in the 50's and 60's.

If memory serves, he raced a horse named *MYSTIC II. Although he was a good steeplechaser he also has figured prominently in a number of flat racer's pedigrees.

I think it's rather silly IMHO. I wonder how many hypos will be run using Ruffian, Personal Ensign and other deceased mares. If a horse is not retired why would a breeder be that interested NOW, particularly since nobody can say where he would even stand at stud.

Yes, a French bred horse, Mrs. Valentine was very proud of him, most of the flat runners ran in her name, they had a pretty nice filly in the 70's named Sans Critique, by Reviewer, one of my favorites.

SANS CRITIQUE, out of a California-bred mare (!) from the great ALOE family, was bred and consigned by Bertram Linder to the Saratoga Sale, where he always had a small but top-class consignment. Linder was one of the nicest, most colorful people I've met in the business. A very nice man with a barbershop mustache! Sans Critique was from the 2nd crop of REVIEWER; his first crop included champions RUFFIAN and REVIDERE. Prematurely named a chef-de-race, Reviewer sired very little other than these three fillies who did not reproduce much at stud.
