Prospect Bay

Prospect Bay had 5 starters @ Chales Town so far this year with 4 wins.

The fastest horse in NA in 1996 and this will be his last year at stud.

I loved him so much as a racehorse (blinding speed) that I was one of the initial shareholders. Although the share was profitable for me, I don't know that I have ever been so relieved as I was when PBay was sold to VA interests.

Brilliantly fast, good physical, out of a great mare, good physical foals/yearlings, unfortunately his progeny never ran as well as expected.

The stallion game is tough - over the years only 1 out of 9 stallions that start their career in KY are still in KY 6 years later.
A difference of opinion is what makes horse racing and missionaries.

Agree it's a tuff game..I stood Big Excitement in LA for a vert short period.

PB was #1 stallion in VA for years and he's making money for the lady that is standing him WV; i.e., she gets a 10% stallion bonus all his get's winnings in WV races.

I have a cryptoclearance mare in-foal to him for 2012. And I'm breeding Legitimada to him this year. We had her in-foal to PB last year but she lost it along the way.. She was 12 YO before I bred her and I'm suret that is at least part of the problem. She'l be on regumate from the day she is checked in foal to a couple of weeks before she is due this time..

I like PB and often wondered why his racing career was so short.. I believe he was on the borad ever time he ran.

Also, I'm not sure why his VA owner is retiring his as he is still very fertile.

Anyway, I like him with mares like Legitimads that need a dose of Mr P and he brings danzig along as a bonus.

Prospect Bay is listed at Jockey Club as breeding no mares in 2011, bred 8 in 2010, and 8 in 2009. He's 20 years old, so theres not much upside there. Winners of $5,000 Maiden Claimers at Charlestown dont inspire much hope.

I have a mare that is in-foal to Prospect Bay for 2012.

Also, I have not looked but I don't think the four of five that won since 01/01/2012 were not all C5000

What are you running this year and where??

Why don't you stand the horse yourself?

Bast

How many are you standing??

Also. how many do you have running this year? or last year.

AS to why I don't stand him; first I don't own him and the owners have decided to retire him.

second I stood a TB once, Big Excitement, and as da hossman says it's a tuff game, a very tuff game. too tuff for me. Have you ever trued it?

third, I don't like stallions. I have never started a colt yet and probably never will.

I'm a WV & PA Breeder and racer and I don't pretend to be anything else.

And, there is money to made in both states with their breeder, owner and stallion owner programs.. How did you do last year?

I checked with the farm that is standing Prospect Bay and he covered 10 mares last year and all 10 checked in foal.. Not bad for a 20 YO stallion..

I once had a college professor tell our class that; "those that can, do; those that can't do, teach; those that can't teach write text books and those that can't write come up with make believe stable and advise the doers how to breed and race their horses.

I look at a stallion like Giants Causeway, who I would love to able to afford, and find that around half his get never win a race..then I hear people make excuses that his get run in higher class races than Charles Town or Penn national . Then I think to myself, if I had a Giants Causeway that could not make it in the big time, I believe I would move him down a a notch or two before I would declare my Giants Causeway a total looser.

The Jockey Club doesnt list this horse as breeding any mares this past year. Maybe they didnt report them? The 4 winners that I can find were 2 Maiden $10,000 and 2 Maiden $5,000. Hardly the type results to inspire people to send mares to him. Hopefully he will have a good retirement.

None. But I don't own any mares, either.

Prospect Bay had his 6th starter for 2012 a couple of nights ago at Mountaineer winning his MSW.

I believe that is five winners out of 6 horses that have started this year and the non winner has placed 2nd and 3rd in allowance races.

Not bad for a 20 some year old that is going to retire next year. He covered my mare Legitimada once and she is in-foal. And my Cryptoclearance mare is due to foal her Prospect Bay in May.

Did not make it in KY but seems to be holding up well as a good producing regional stallion.

thanks Fireslam

i'll get back to my source with this correction.

Still please Legitimada is in-foal to him.. She had 64 starts in 6+ years and averaged about $3,000 per start. PB was really fast and I'm hoping he'll pass that speed and I'll get something that runs for a while ands runs fast.

thanks again
