Need TB stallion for AQHA mare

Postby Skipitgirl » Thu Mar 15, 2012 9:47 am

Im looking for a TB stallion to breed to my AQHA mare. Would like tall (at least 16.2) with good bone. Looking to breed for my own personal use (I raised this mare and want a foal for myself out of her). Race record is unimportant. Must be balanced and well proportioned as well as a nice mover. Mare is a point producer and this will be her second foal. If anyone knows of any stallions that fit this criteria please let me know. Looking in OH, Ky and In as I know most TB stallions only live cover. Thanks!

Why would you want to live cover? There are plenty of TB horses that will ship transported cooled semen and you can keep your mare at home and save time, money and hassle. If you have some reason not to AI your mare I'd love to hear it - otherwise you can mark me down for considering this a dumb request.

I imagine the TB stallion should also have a QH number? Incentive fund enrolled?

She said that since most TB stallions are live cover only, she was interested in those states particularly. There's nowhere that said she wouldn't consider AI if it was offered.

She also said she wasn't interested in racing. The jockey club is the only one hung up on live cover. Most performance type TBs use AI. Madelyn is right unless the TB is listed with the AQHA she can't register the foal - I doubt many TBs in KY are also listed with the AQHA. It wouldn't take Sherlock Holmes for figure out the implication.

Well - I ship semen ALL the time to the States with no delays at all! Semen arrives early the next morning, mare is inseminated, done deal ... :)

Check out Guaranteed Gold (16.1hh cremello TB stallion) and Panoramic (17.1hh black sabino TB stallion at: www.TrueColoursFarm.com

Both are AQHA and APHA listed

GG tends to put a few inches on the height of his foals and Panoramic adds height as well. Both have lovely Appendix foals on the ground right now. GG's are older than Panoramic's are

How tall is your mare and can you post some pictures of her?

Good luck in your search! :)

Is GG's stud fee different for AQHA than for TB?

casallc- dumb request? hummmm ok.

Most TBs only live cover. If someone has one that AIs thats fine too. I prefer close to where I live as I actually prefer to SEE the stallion before I choose to breed. You know, look at it in person? Watch him move etc? Not rely on doctored photos and crappy video.

I dont care about Incentive Fund and I know the stallion has to be listed with AQHA to register my foal. In 30 years of AQHA ownership I have learned THAT. As I said, I want a foal out of this mare for MYSELF. I saw what she threw when she was leased for breeding and she is a POINT PRODUCER with ONE foal.

Id like the thank the stallion owners who replyed with suggestions. And Donna, I wouldnt need to see GG or Panoramic in person.... :D She is 15.2 and built like a, well you know. Im trying to refine her a bit is all.

Here is a photo from winter. Ill have to find others. Ill PM you with them as I am interested in Panoramic.

Wow. She'd be great with Rocking Trick. I'd have to get him an AQHA number but I've been needing to do that anyway. pm me if you are interested.

Skipitgirl - Here's one in KY, Blue Eyed Streaker, that offers the possibility of some unique color - might be on the 'short side' but I think his offspring are often taller. He used to stand in Texas and was bred mostly to non-TB mares. I think he's seeing a much higher quality of mare in terms of conformation, etc. now that he's located in KY.

I guess the first question is what type of horse are you looking to produce? The AQHA horses tend to be very activity specific. Are you hoping to get an all-round horse or one that specializes in English events? If English, are you looking for a flat horse or an over-fences type? If I were in your area trying to produce a useful AQHA English type horse I would certainly consider Sonny's Hot Jazz if he fits your mare.

Roguelet has some nice stallions in Indiana. I especially like INDY MOOD.

TB stallion for AQHA mare

Postby framed » Tue Mar 20, 2012 4:43 pm

It's simple enough to obtain a T-number with the AQHA. If you find a stallion you really like who has not yet obtained a T-number, maybe you could request it. Would love to see you cross to Blue Eyed Streaker, but alas, he is only 15.3. So far we are seeing all but one of the foals we've produced looking like they will easily exceed 16 hands, and some string test at 16.1 and 16.2. But not enough height here to give you much more than 16 hands if the mare is also 15.3. He is also registered with the APHA, so offspring would be double registered! Good luck with your search.:)[/b]
