they sold too soon. way too soon. have to be kicking themselves now. he's a very good sire. he's just not as consistent as say tapit. he's more like Awesome again they are either going to be really really good or they aren't. but his runners can flat out run.

thats the horse business, the minute you sell a mare she'll pop up a winner.. A stud is no different..

The saying in KY for years has been:

"The only sure way to make a stallion is to kill'em or sell 'em to Japan!"

It always seems to work that way.

By the way, The "kill 'em" part of the phrase did not mean literally kill them - it is a reference to how those stallions that die tragically young often seem to be successful post mortem. I.E. Bold Reasoning, Old Trieste, Lawyer Ron, etc.

Empire Maker was quite successful before he was sold. It was the money at stake that probably swayed the deal - ie: everything is for sale if the price is right.

Regardless of the logistics of why Empire Maker was sold, I actually think Bodemeister is an extremely interesting stallion prospect. He certainly has more speed than his sire did.

yes but I think his sire was a tad bit classier. if not a really crappy derby week he might have won the triple crown. he was extremely gifted.

I think a big part of it is that the Prince sent some of his best stock over to Empire Maker, and the offspring of those matings never did much. EM got some great runners, but when you upset your owner the sum total of your accomplishments may get lost in emotion based on a small sample size. I think there were likely plans to move him to IRE/Europe when the big offer came. Too bad.

What's the consensus on First Defense, who is still there with Mizzen Mast? He's got a similar, but in my estimation better, family in the pedigree. Obviously didn't get as far on the track though. His first foals who will run this year were conceived on a $25K stallion fee. Granted it was a different day, but I think I recall he covered over 70 at that fee. Any potential in the Empire Maker-Chester House family there?

Empire Maker was sold becuase a huge offer was made for him and the stallion wasn't getting enough of the right mares.

He is a perfect fit for the Japanese mares who are full of Halo.

According to what I read in TDN, Better Than Honor will wind up being bred to Bodemeister down the road.

Empire Maker had a superb day today at Pimlico!

In Lingerie won the G2 Black Eyed Susan
Coup won the 100K Hilltop S.
Share Out won an ALW race on the undercard

oh no! I hate to hear about our horses going to Japan, etc.

Does anyone have any info. on the gallant Silver Charm? He almost won the TC back in 97 I believe. Capt. Bodgit was the favorite, and I bet Silver charm to win and Capt. Bodgit second for $20 and made a good buck.
at least more than I had in my pocket that day!

We all remember, sadly, what happened to the great Ferdinand and others who did not make it back, so I hope they made legal arrangements to bring the boy back before something happened to him.

Look what a good stallion Sunday Silence turned out to be over there; what could he have done here? Did he HAVE to go over there??

lots of ?????'s :?:

Sunday Silence was sold to Japan because he was attracting not much interest here.

There isn't any evidence that he would have been as successful here as he was in Japan. For decades, the Japanese had taken on stallions who were plodders and who failed as stallions. Sunday Silence may have brought speed to a population of mares who desperately needed that influence.

Tappiano.. BTH will be bred to Bode because it will be Southern Equine supporting their own stallion with their own mares..and what a mare to open a book with!
