Rimrod
Was just taking a look at Pennsylvania stallion Rimrod, who stands at Castle Rock Farm, and was astonished to find he's got an AEI of 1.91 and average earnings per starter of over $53,000, all for a $1,500 stud fee. He's owned by Geo. Strawbridge and is a half-brother to Selkirk, sire of Aiken (GB), who won the Gr. 2 Grand Prix de Chantilly today. A good choice for budget-minded breeders.

In 2010 I was looking to breed a half sister of Belong to Me and found Rimrod to be a useful and reasonably priced source of Danzig. I particularly liked that his full sister, Seebe, missed being a classic winner by just a head in the French Guineas.
Although getting on in years, Selkirk had impressed me the year before when, while visiting Newmarket for the Guineas, I saw him at Lanwades Stud.

I did look him up. He has one US stakes winner, who won a single stakes, granted he placed in a few others.
The German stakes winner is out of a terrific female line (the fantastic Flame of Tara and her even better daughter Salsabil hail from this family) who consistently produces well.
The jury is still out but you would think he'd have some stakes placed runners in the states, especially with a few of them being decently bred.
I think Rimrod could be a good regional sire. He is well bred and has shown some potential. Two things that I think need to improve for him is to market him more and increase his stud fee. I know that sounds crazy but most people don't take a stallion who is priced that low very seriously. If they bumped it to 4 or 5k and gave great deals I think he would fair much better. We are programmed to believe that the more expensive things are the better they are (even if they are not). Just a thought.
That is so true. And there are few stallions with AEIs of 1.91 and avg. progeny earnings of of over $53K that are priced so cheaply. I know Geo. Strawbridge has been supporting him with some of his mares, which is great. A stud fee of $1,500 is not going to attract the better mares in the region, that's for sure.

His full brother was given a shot in KY a few years ago to no avail. No thanks.
