http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/ ... d-to-75000

Awesome Again $75,000
Ghostzapper $50,000
Macho Uno $20,000
Giacomo $5000
Tiago $3500
Einstein $7500

Canada----
Milwaukee Brew $10,000
North Light $7500 (what is stronach smoking)
Sligo Bay $6000
Silent Name $5000
Giant Gizmo $4000
Plan $4000
Singing Saint $2500
Mast Track $2500 (actually, not a bad price if you want a turfer)
Showing Up $2500
Musketier $2500

New York----

Touch Gold $7500
Alphabet Soup $6000

I think Awesome Again is a bit high--he had been in the same $30k-$50k group as Arch, Pulpit, Tale of the Cat, Speightstown, Elusive Quality, Candy Ride, and Stormy Atlantic. He fit so well in that group.....he's not quite at the level of Giant's Causeway, Smart Strike, and Tiznow. Macho Uno the same, his first Kentucky crop came out running but he fit in so well at the $15k level.

Just another example of the disconnect between stud fees and the market place. He sold 30 yearlings last year at a median price of $46,000, down 35% from the previous years yearlings. So lets raise the fee 50%.
So they want me to bring a mare over to breed, that I can expect to sell for 40,000-50,000 in 2 and half years. And it will only cost me 80 some grand after sales taxes for the right.
Now in his defense, the average earnings of his runners is $107,000. So you can get a runner. But to breed to Awesome Again at $75,000 is insanity for a breed to sell business plan. He should be around $20,000.

Well, under a breed to race scenario with an average earnings of $107k there is no way to make money, either. If it costs $20k to get a horse from birth to 2, then maybe $20k a year (?) in training fees, then just to get from conception to the end of the 2 year old season would be $120k.

Einstein at $2500 would be worth a punt for somebody who wanted to breed a horse to race and later chase or event with. He has some serious jump names on his dam line and a decent physical type for it.

Ghostzapper's 2013 is $40,000 not $50,000.

I know, and had it in the list as $7500. If he were standing for a third the price, the sporthorse people and chasers IMO would take a good hard look at him.
