Postby Slew83 » Sun Mar 03, 2013 12:48 am

Which stallions or bloodlines are the best tempered?

Which stallion was it that had a child ran under him?

I know that the Clever Trick line is known for amazing great tempered offspring, also highly intelligent.

I've been told Indian Ridge - Ahonoora were nice stallions to deal with, and Legal Jousting continues in that tradition. :)

I own a Pleasant Tap stallion who is the spittin' image of his daddy that is childproof. He is also out of a Rubiano (Fappiano) mare who was highly intelligent so that may be a factor.

Generally, I would say that anything from the Hail To Reason family would be pretty aggressive.

My three Dehere's are all very kind, as are all of my Raise A Native family horses.
The talented ones will give you an early hint.

After spending some quality time in Kentucky last week, I actually have some input on this subject

I made my first visit to Old Friends en route to Lexington. I got an abbreviated tour at dinner time, so I got quite a bit of close contact with a lot of the stallions there.

Sarava and Prized were definitely studdy, yet very well-behaved. Prized will still test you to see what he can get away with.

Ogygian had to have been a dog in a past life. Everything about his actions reminded me of an old St. Bernard. Very cool, calm, and collected for a visually impared horse.

Gulch wanted to cuddle, and I think he would have even if I wasn't packing carrots. I wouldn't have believed he was a stallion if I hadn't known who he was.

Granted, these were short visits, but part of my job as an RVT is to size up the horse's attitude quickly so I can keep the DVM-and anyone else around-safe.

Gulch was not cuddly when he stood stud.
A difference of opinion is what makes horse racing and missionaries.

Don't know what he meant, but years ago I spoke to someone involved with Ahonoora during his racing days and he told me that the horse was a freak.
Nevertheless he didn't do too bad as a stallion....

I've heard from those who saw him in person that Smoke Glacken is an absolute gentleman.

Judging by the temperament of one of his fillies that we owned--who had a personality like a big, old, overgrown Labrador Retriever--I'd believe it. The only time she got the least bit excitable was on her way out for a run. (And boy did she love to run!)
So many pedigrees...so little time. (C)
