Pedigree Query

Why is he so popular? He only started twice, and he didn't even win the both of them. I've seen better pedigrees too. Has he sired winners? I've just heard a lot about him lately, and I'm not a big fan of his appearance or pedigree. Now, if he produces, that is another story...

Sooooo....what troubles you about the pedigree? I'm guessing you're not talking about the sire's side. On the bottom, every mare in the first 4 generations have produced BLACK TYPE winners. Soooo....what's not to like?

He's just sired a KD winner...but Orb's pedigree has 2x of MP which i don't like.

Looks like he's probably sired a few winners. You might remember Life At Ten, for instance.

Of all the conduit's to Mr. P when an inbreeding to Mr. P is done, Fappiano is BY FAR the most successful.

Having a similar pedigree has worked out pretty good for Tapit.

Well, I'm not an AP Indy fan. I don't like the faces he throws, let alone his own. Indy isn't an attractive stallion, I think, but HIS pedigree is nice. I just don't like how Indy turned out. Now, the dam's side of Malibu Moon isn't terrible at all, and we owe 60% of his success to the dam. After all, the sire only contributes 40% of himself to the foal, and thank gosh! I am really not a fan of AP Indy or his get. They all just get his unattractive head! But as long as he throws winners, I guess you guys are right; if the horse can prove itself, then they are a popular sire, despite conformation and appearance.

Sorry for ranting about Indy; he was a fine racer. Don't mean to offend anyone with this message, I'm just opinion-hearty sometimes.

A good start, Patuxet. The following are a tally of Mr. P inbreds that ARE A YEAR OLD....there are many more. My Goldmine database is a year old, I'm pretty sure. 119 G1, 109 G2 and 167 G3. These are JUST the GRADED Stakes victories. Many other VERY successful horses who just never got a Graded Stakes win.

As far as A.P.'s looks/confirmation go....I don't know....I don't care if my horse looks like a donkey and with a leg on backwards....if I'm in the winners circle at a G1 race.

I am LMAO right now. I have NEVER heard anyone say that Indy is ugly until today.
He is probably one of the finest specimens I(and many others) have ever seen. Saw him at 3 and as a mature stallion. He has a fantastic head.

Don't care if their head looks like a pumpkin, long as they can run and win at high levels; which A.P. Indy's tend to do.

To each his/her own. Clearly though...there has been, and continues to be, an extremely significant number of not only VERY successful runners with more than a single dose of Mr Prospector in the family, but also VERY successful breeding stock that boasts more than one dose of Mr Prospector in the family.

And the breeding stock (stallions and/or mares) that have but a single dose of Mr P in the family, are often bred to produce a result that will have a double dose of Mr Prospector. And the results are often outstanding...the most recent poster child for a double dose of Mr Prospector being KyDerby winner Orb.

Why not spend some time and go thru stallion registers, and stakes results; maybe then you'll better understand why so many have been bullish (for lack of a better word) on a double dose of Mr Prospector

Bottom line, to my way of thinking Mr Prospector has zero, nada, nothing to prove; he has done it all !

What's not to like? A P Indy is in my opinion the second most influential sire of the last 20 years. It's hard to knock a sire that has had such an impact on the breed. Malibu Moon is an overachiever to the degree that we don't often see. Makes me curious of what kind of horse he would have been if sound.
