New stallion @ Bridlewood(fl). 2k fee, had several mares at OBS yesterday-none sold. What gives?

Looks like no one thinks very much of him or his foals. Not a single foal broke 5 figures (highest was $9k) and then they ran the stud himself through and sold him for $1,200 (hip 266).

He sired Funny Cide and Drosslmyer even though he's a Ridgling...who knew-not me.

His sire, Distorted Humor, sired those horses not Forty Grams.

The Jockey Club reports this year he covered a mere 9 mares.

Looked at the catalog. It appears it was the horse himself. Not a breeding right.

Why bother?

There are enough cheaply bred horses out there. Geld him, retrain him. Don't reproduce him.

"He was bound to get one runner."

Nice of him to provide that one runner with his only runner! It's OK to geld these cheap stallions, but if someone has a nice state-bred program and a couple of mares why begrudge them. Opportunity, quality of mares, and who races the foals is what makes the stallion. The problem is the Buddahs and High Yield types who have hundreds of foals before proving to be horrible stallions.

So much waste in the breeding world; there should be a law or fine for such things...
