Anybody know what his soundness issues were?

If I recall rightly, he had bad feet. A quarter crack that wouldn't heal.

That's what I was thinking...Anyone out there that has bred any mares to him or seen any of his babies?

I have a very nice filly by Millennium Wind born 2/4/5 She is on the small side but this is the 1st foal out of the mare so that could be the reason. She is very well conformed and has a ton of personality. I really was not very happy with the way the Millennium Wind weanlings sold and am hoping the yearlings will sell better. I'm pulling for Sun King to maybe help me out a little. I sent another mare to him this year, i just think for his price and ability as a race horse combined with his gorgeous looks is a real nice prospect for the commercial market.

I've worked with two MW offspring and they don't look anything alike. Both seem to take after the dam's physically and mentally. No real conformational problems, although the chestnut's cannon bones are a tad longer than I'd like to see (he sort of looks like a gazelle.)

Millennium Wind is an impressive horse, very well-balanced with the exception of small feet. He moves gracefully and has a good temperament. My mare Vivid Dreams is scheduled to visit him after her April foal is born. If the foals take after the mares, hers will be solidly built and correct and nearly black. But first we await a foal from Vision and Verse.

I've always like Millenium Wind and since you've seen him in person, I have a question. Is he lightboned? He looks a little light-boned in his press photos, but I don't remember thinking that about him when he was racing.

I won't answer for Henthorn, but I will give you my opinions. First, I will tell you that I am breeding to him this year. When I saw him in Jan, I did not think that he was light boned. He looks very powerful with deep chest and good shoulder. His front legs are average - minor faults. He is severely sickel (? spelling) hocked. I talked to the agent who was the underbidder on him as a yearling. (I recall that he sold for 1 million plus.) He does not remember him being that way as a yearling.

I haven't seen any Millennium Wind foals, but have seen many of his 1/2 brother Tossofthecoin's. These foals tend to have small feet, be upright, and be big bodied and heavy. They should be given more time to mature before racing given the above. Great female family, but at least with Toss, confirmation and soundness issues.

I would second Liberty's observations - an attractive horse with a good body and an awful hind leg.

I don't recall him being light-boned or sickle-hocked, just the small feet. I just viewed the Thoroughbred Times directory online to look again at his conformation and walking video. His standing picture doesn't look sickled, and his walking looks mildly sickled. But I am the world's worst at not noticing sickle-hocks as well as some others do. I loved the way he moved when I saw him in person, a very smooth gliding motion.
