A sad day as I really liked that old boy. I guess you could call him a real blue collar sire. He probably wasn't going to give you a classic horse, but his progeny went out and ran hard and often, picking up a lot of checks for their owners.

How sad, I was a huge fan of Smoke Glacken, he sired some tough, fast horses. Some of my favourites were Carthage, Delaunay, and On Fire Baby.

http://www.americanclassicpedigrees.com/smoke-glacken.htmlQuestion: Does anyone know the significance of his name, if any? Glacken is a surname found in the United States, so I'm wondering if he was named after a member of that family whose nickname was "Smoke." Just speculation on my part.

Mahubah-
I bred a mare to Smoke Glacken years ago. So I read and researched everything Smoke Glacken.
As I recall, Smoke Glacken was a real person. He was a boiler/furnace repair man or maker of boilers/furnaces.
Sorry I could not be more helpful.

That horse is a slow, low level claimer. Why would you want to breed to him? Are you looking to breed to race or breed to sell?

Oh god no. That horse isn't mine, I don't want to breed him and the more I learn about horses the less i know.
I was just at my friends barn while they were shoeing some horses and the farrier said he had it. Saw the post the same night and put the information out there.
Farrier had some story about how it should have run better but it cracked some bone and they didn't realize it, yada yada.
I'm in the information business and just put out some info I had just heard. Please don't blame me if it is a bad horse, I'm not smart enough to know the difference.

Funny how we are still remembering him three years on, while so many others are forgotten.
