Hallo,
I have sad news for the forum. One of our best race horses and Sires
Acatenago (Surumu - Aggravate o/o Aggressor) is dead.

He a fatal injury in a fall in his paddock and had to be put down Saturday, 2.4.05 (D/M/Y). He was 23 years old.
Acatenango was a very successful and infliential sires, via his progeny, for example Lando, Borgia, Blue Canari, Aeskulap, Sabiango, Puntilla, Protektor etc.

Sorry to hear that, Bettina. I wish I had been interested in horses when I was living in Europe, so I would have seen first-hand how things are done over there.

Sad news for the German TB industry indeed. Bettina, which of his sons do you think are most likely to continue the line to the next generation? Do any of them have promising sons?

the most promising one of the Acatenango sons at the moment is Lando. Lando himself won the German Derby and the "Japan Cup". His best son so far went to stud this year, his name is "Paolini", a HB of Platini.
Lando himself stood several years at the "Ittlingen Stud", but this season he went to France and stands now at the "Haras d'Etreham".

Another one is Sabiango, the first "Shuttle Sire" in Germany. He was sent to stand one season at the "Maine Chance Farm" in South Africa". Unfortunately ther was an outbreak of an "African Horse Disease" and no horse from this aera is perrmits to be exported or leave the country. So he is still in SA.

Protektor is another one. He was a very tough horse and was still racing at 9 years. It was hard for his owner to find a stud, who was willing to stand him. He had an immidiate success, with his daugther Portella (German 1000 Guineas).

Other son of Acatenango, who went to stud are Aeskzlap, Hamond, Diamante. The started their staillion duties during the last 1-2 years and don't have any offspring racing yet.

Acatenago is the sire of last season "Prix de Jockey Club" winner Blue Canari. One of his last foals was sold at the "Baden Baden Yearlings Auction" for 4000.000 Euros, the name is Quorum.

Hi Bettina, sorry, but a have to correct you: The first german shuttle stallion is the great Silvano (by Lomitas), the older brother of Sabinago.

For Sabinago are also plans to stand him in South Africa.

Quorum was sold for 400.000 €.

Hallo Bettina, we miss Acatenango too. We had some his grandsons here and they were beautiful horses, as Acatenango was. Although Acatenango wasn't that type of stallion that I love from the first sight, he was beautiful and exciting and I'll never forget him - as well as many people in the industry I believe. Good luck to his sons!!!

Two grandsons of Acatenango were first and third, respectively, in today's top Czech race... what more to say... Rest in Peace boy...

What I like about Lando is the fact he won not only Gr1 races in Germany but Italy and Japan.
He also is tail-mail and tail-female to full brother and sister Literat and Liberty a rarity in modern breeding.
