Grand Reward

Postby Coquinerie » Mon Apr 11, 2005 10:01 pm

What's everyone's thoughts on this new G2 winner by Storm Cat out of Champion Serena's Song? He has awesome speed and can obviously carry it well on the dirt to Classic and handicap distances. He was group placed as a two year old on the turf and the family seems to be wakening up some. I've been told by a clocker in Kentucky that he's the best piece of horse flesh he's ever seen and this person has been clocking for a long time at Churchill. The fact that Coolmore bought half interest in him as a yearling for 6 million would also back that. Thoughts as a stallion prospect????

I like his potential as a stallion, and I'm not really even a Storm Cat fan. There are too many SC sons out there already (in my opinion), but obviously Grand Reward has a stellar female family, and that counts for alot in my book. I like the flexability he's shown running well on turf and dirt, too. He should cross well with mares who specialize on either surface. There's no way to predict how successful he'll be as a sire, but he looks good on paper to me.

I like him, as well. He's going to make a very nice alternative to Giants Causeway for Coolmore. He's by Storm Cat out of a top Rahy mare. He's a full brother to the grade one winner Sophisticat. He's a very good looking horse, and seems to be coming into his own this year. If they place him correctly, he can make a ton of money before retiring to the breeding shed next year. But I would bet that they run him in every grade 1 from now till the end of the year to try and spike the stud fee. If he retires today, he probably stands for $25,000. If they get a grade one knocked off, he could stand for $50,000.

tell me about it. But he probably would, with a grade 1 win. And they would get mares to him. By Storm Cat, out of Serena's Song. And Giants Causeway they just bumped to $200,000.
