at least to California breeders:

So in the last year or so, California has lost General Meeting, Avenue of Flags, Free House, Smokester, Flying Continental and Lord Carson. When you take them all together, that's at least 200-250 mares that need to be booked elsewhere. Definitely a changing of the old guards possible in the California program...

Sysonby, New Mexico has picked up Wild Deputy, Avenue of Flags and Devon Lane from California (and probably a few others) all in the last couple of years. It seems stallions that don't get much attention there can come to New Mexico and get much larger books. We don't have nearly the number of good sires here, and a pretty good incentive program for our state breds. The quality of mares is improving here too, as breeders are bringing in mares with blacktype from other parts of the country to produce foals that will be competitive in the regional stakes races.
