General Royal (no e) is a son of A. P. Indy, standing at Crestwood Farm in KY for $3,500 fee. He's a good-looking boy, who ran 39 times, and won from 6.5-9 furlongs age 2-5. His best was a G3 win and he won six minor stakes and placed in two other G3 stakes. I really liked him when I visited Crestwood in May. He's from the female family of Exceller, Capote, Baldski, and Broad Brush. His yearlings haven't sold for much, and his first crop of 35 foals was born in 2001. I think he would suit lots of mares, since he is free of Northern Dancer and Mr. Prospector.

His dam is full sister to American Standard. I was thinking of breeding to him but I thought he was very upright and appeared to paddle his front legs when he walked. I decided to pass.

Oh, now I like to see that. We just sealed the deal on a Proper Reality mare with the thought of breeding her to another A.P. Indy son who is out of an In Reality mare, just like General Royal... apparently that cross has already worked!

Some friends of ours have a General Royal filly, and though I haven't seen her myself, I hear she's quite the looker.
