Purim---Potential top class stallion

Postby chicago78 » Thu Jul 14, 2005 12:18 pm

I think a horse that is a very attractive stallion prospect is Purim. An undefeated 3 year old colt by Dynaformer, he won the Arlington Classic (grade 3)in his last start. His maiden win was sprinting on the dirt at Tampa in a very fast time, so he seems like a real versatile horse. He's very well bred, has absolutely no Northern Dancer or Mr. Prospector blood, and his fourth dam is Aspidistra. Dynaformer hasn't really had a top class stallion prospect, as his top horses have been fillies and geldings, but this guy could be the one.

I think for me the interesting bits of Purims pedigree are not what he HAS, but what he does not.

He has Aspidistra without Intentionally, Rough'n'Tumble, Stop the Music, Wild Risk, or Buckpasser. The crosses of Intentionally and Rough'n'Tumble are crucial in the success of this family, and as Purim is free of these influences he should do well with introduction of any of them. Wild Risk, Stop the Music, and Buckpasser are not as strongly influential as the first two, but have produced huge runners (notably Cure the Blues, Giacomo, Unbridled, and Housebuster).

Purim also carries Lalun through Bold Reason but without Sadlers Wells. Linebreeding to Lalun through Bold Reason and Never Bend from this family has produced a young G3 winner in New Zealand.

Purim is stacked with Ribot (3 crosses in 5 gen) but has very little Prince Rose. Adding that strain of St Simon may also get a mighty fine runner.

So yes, I think he's a great stallion prospect. Hopefully he'll end up being a good runner too.
