One-eyed progeny of Carson City

Postby monicabee » Tue Aug 09, 2005 4:35 pm

I was told recently that Carson City produced four babies with only one eye or vision in only one eye (born that way) and that all of them have become stakes horses.

Pollard's Vision is one of them. Anyone know who the others might be?

I have seen many TB in my rouunds of the backstretch, that were one-eyed wonders. Thats because they have a heart that doesnt know what quit is.

I cant recall their names but their very special to me.

Louis, an aquaintance of mine has a one-eyed filly. That's how this information came up. She's a nice looking filly otherwise and they plan to put her in training (she's only a baby now) until she tells them she can't do it.

Wouldn't it be interesting if the one-eyed condition was not only a problem that horses were overcoming, but if it was actually linked to special ability? I am not prepared to propose that it is, just yet, as it might be the kind of taradiddle used to console people for their long-awaited foal being imperfect, but I was wondering if I could substantiate the Carson City story.

Any other names of horses with this condition would also be helpful, if you can remember them.

He was something, wasn't he? Always underrated and yet always there at the finish.

I had expected a response pointing out that he was not by Carson City....guess the watchdogs aren't on during the middle of the day

Real Connection was another with one eye, I believe she lost it as a foal.

She was pale gray and ran with her teeth bared - always running late on the outside - so in the finish line shots she looked like an equine grim reaper, with her empty eye socket glaring at the camera. :D *Loved* that mare.

I'm a Bert's Bubbleator fan, as well....tracked his first crop, none of which amounted to anything. I hadn't heard an update on him in a couple years. :?

Another one that I loved it's a shame that she died so young and with no foals.

I thought Pollards Vision had MRLS related problems, and the had to remove his eye?

The BloodHorse reported that Pollard's blindness was a result of MRLS. The eye was never removed- you can still see it and it's rather a funky blue, cataract-colored.

Cat Thief's dam, Train Robbery, had a foal by Jump Start that had no eyes last year.
