Dixie Union

Postby Coquinerie » Thu Oct 13, 2005 9:54 pm

So Lane's End raised Dixie Unoion's fee to 40k up form 30k. I know he's having a hot month and has an amazing female family backing him (for what its worth its the only female family I bought into from my partners this past Sept 05 sale) but it seems a little steep when he hasnt seperated himself from the pack of his crop in too many ways. Thoughts?

He has always been very commerical as he generally gets a good looking horse. It is a case of supply and demand as his owner (Gerald Ford - Diamond A) supports him well and he is also syndicated.

He has more foals that are yearlings and weanlings than he does 2 and 3 year olds, so you cant even look at statistics that include all of his foals. Winners from foals is a worthless statistics, means nothing. And winners from starters is 52%, not 19%. This is per BRIS stallion page.

After a stallion has 5 crops you can post his stats with acuracy, as less than 5 crops will distorte his stats.

I used the BH stallion register to post DU stats, and if their wrong then the BH is at fault.

After looking at some of his offspring at the sale(and bidding on them), I can see a price jump. The female side, is definetely better looking, but this crop should do fairly well on the racetrack..making him worth more.

To Sarah C. When you mean female side, do you mean DU 1st 3 dams, or DU fillys at the sales?

According to the Blood Horse Stallion Directory online, he has 39 winners from 70 starters, which is far more than 19%. More like 56%.

Sorry about that, to clarify his female offspring. All the fillies I seen were very nice looking, put together well and besides a few minor conformation faults here and there looked good. We looked at several dixie union fillies..just about everyone in the books unless a dam was thrown out from the beginning. Even the smaller ones, were put together pretty decent, but I would say the majority were all decent sized and proportional. Compared to some other stallions that sired offspring that didn't tend to have so many nice looking fillies.
As far as the colts go, they were alright. I would say that the fillies looked better and for the money they were going, I would have bought a filly over a colt.

To Sarah C. It will be fun to track DU fillys and see if his fillys excell on the racetrack and have an edge over DU colts.
