The Orby sire line has come and gone in the male, but is still alive and well in tail-female.

ROUND TABLE br. H 1954
Princequillo---Knight's Daughter, by Sir Cosmo

Round Table made 66 starts won 43 races and earned 1,749,869 Round Table traces in tail-female to Orby thru Sir Cosmo.

In my research I have seen many mares that were bred to our US stallions that traced to Orby in tail-female.

Louis, in light of what you said in your post, how would you describe K One King? He is from the Round Table sire line being by Apalachee, but I'm not sure how one would then describe the relation to Orby? Just curious. Thanks much for your insight, AK

K One King's sire Apalachee by Round Table. RT dam Knights Daughter was by Sir Cosmo, by The Boss, by Orby, thus Orby is found in the tail-male of Knights Daughter.

Their may be stallions in other parts of the world that can be found to trace to Orby in their male line.

Bettina from Germany may have some insight on this as Bettina is a researcher of pedigrees.

I was searching for sire lines of the Hyperion branch of (Gainsborough) when I found the following Orby stallions of 2 decades ago. The following are those Orby sire line stallions.

Be Friendly (GB)
Don Juan (GB)
El Gallo (GB)
Gallivanter (GB)
Gratitude (GB)
Matador (GB)
Skymaster (GB)
Whistling Wind (GB)

Does anyone know if any grand-sons or great grand sons are carrying on the sire line of Orby through this list of stallions?

Orby Sireline

Postby Bettina » Fri Oct 21, 2005 3:58 am

Hallo,
I did a bit of research about the abovementioned Sireline.
So I found some descants at least until the Eighties.
For example here in Germany stood an imported sire named Pentathlon who traces via Ennis to Orby. He had 2 sons who went Stud named Limbo(still alive with 30 years, but retired from breeding) and Hohritt. Both didn't extend her sireline.
Another sire was Klondyke Bill via Golden Cloud, but he was a disapoinment.
The Sire Matador had 2 more sons named Songedor and Escamillo.
Interestingly I found the last male descents of Orby in Denmark. According the database in this country are standing Benovsky and Flying Galivant 1985, both tracing to Orby via Galivanter.
Solozzo recently mentioned a sire standing in Poland tracing to Orby by Vilmorin, but I can't remember his name at the moment.

The Sir Cosmo strain was extend via Whistler to Record Run.

It's very likely this sireline still exists, maybe in a country you never ever thought off. Wait and see.

regards, Bettina

The Aga Khan stood an Orby Grandson named Diophon (1921) by Grand Parade (1916) (by Orby ex Donnetta). One of Diophon's sons, Diolite (1927) was exported to Japan where he was the leading sire in 1942-43-46. There may be descendants, tail male, in that country.

Orby line - temporary revival

Postby HJ » Tue Nov 01, 2005 2:44 am

The Orby sire line had a revival of sorts in South Africa via Gold Bridge in a sire named Mexico II. Mexico II had a fascinating pedigree and if ever there was a horse to carry on the line then it would be through Mexico II. He was a source of pure speed. From very humble beginings he rose up from vitually no support whatsoever to become a champion sire. His son the champion sprinter Harry Hotspur kept the line going but alas its fate is now reliant on the achievements of Super Magic a GR1 winning son of Harry Hotspur who has taken up duties at a small non commercial stud. Maybe Super Magic can repeat the stud feat of his grandsire Mexico II
